Firearms business checking account denied

Postby LastManArms on Fri Jan 04, 2013 6:38 pm

I'm new to the forum as a member, but have been a reader for sometime.
I am a new home based firearms dealer and have passed the ATF and insurance gauntlet of paperwork and the interview and now am waiting for my license in the mail. I have an LLC created for my business and want to keep the business stuff separate from my personal side for obvious reasons. I figured a small business checking account from my bank would be a smart move. I had to provide my articles of organization with the state and my state tax ID along with the business type and what I would be selling. Just found out that they won't give me an account because of the type of business. No further explanation in the voicemail they left me. I will be requesting a written explanation of why not on Monday when they are open. I am a platinum customer of this bank in good standing and have everything with them including a home loan.

I'll be checking with other banks as well to see if they have similar responses.

Has anyone ever heard of something crazy like this with a large national bank?

Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use Central Bank (I think based in Stillwater, and north and eastern areas mainly) and US Bank, and neither of them have any issue with it.

Thanks for the reply Matt. The bank this issue is with is the latter you mentioned. I'm thinking I'll just have to push the issue.

Try USAA. Well, if you're former military (officer or senior enlisted). They do take non military members, but they only have limited access to services. If your parents served, you may be eligible that way too.

Wow....I've hear BofA doing this, but this is the first I have heard of US Bank doing it. Looks like I need to look for a new place to move my accounts to.

I'll let you know how it turns out next week. I'm hoping if I push the issue in person and let them know I'm serious about switching banks, they might work with me.

Thanks for the input so far from everyone!

I work for a credit union and I've worked for national banks and I've never heard of this before. PM me if you want info on my CU.

Never an issue when I worked for US Bank. I can put you in touch with a branch manager.
