6 months ago I bought 100 rounds of Federal .45ACP for $25.00 or .25 a round, which is much more reasonable. I used to get it around .30 to .35 a round, but lately it's been .40 to .45 a round, and .50 is high. I think it's due to the FUD and false start on the panicking some people are doing.

My wife's uncle usually has me pick him up Federal Champion at Walmart on my way to North Dakota (they don't sell it in the Wallys up there for some reason). If I recall, it's usually like $17.99 a box or something?

The Walmart in Grand Forks, ND always has plenty of .45 Federal Champion. The 50 round boxes are usually $18 and the hundred round boxes are $30.

I'd spend more in the 4 hours up and back, I'd waste more in gas than I'd save, so it'd cost me money...however, if I'm up that way any way, yeah, great tip!! Thank you for that. Not worth a special trip, but if I'm in the neighborhood, what the heck, why not eh?

Wally World and Ammo

Postby adoptedson on Sat Jan 05, 2013 12:41 am

I've struck out at the Brooklyn Park Wally world looking for federal .45. They've been hit or miss with the 100rnd packs, but they usually have the 50rnds. Haven't been able to score either though in the last week or two.

I'm headed to Wyoming in a few weeks. I wonder what I will find there regarding ammo prices and availability.

I do that too, but as long as I'm driving out there, it makes sense to bring some back if conditions are favorable.

If you find any Federal (or my absolute Favorite - MagTech in the blue and white box for the ball / practice ammo), in .45ACP, let me know.

Saw some 100 round white box 45 ACP for 39.95 at a wally world. I am not even sure what a good price is. I am new to that caliber. What is a good price now days?

$20/box seems to be the current "standard" price for 45 ACP so anything less than that would be a deal of varying degrees. I look at 45 ACP prices when I see them and that seems to be the new standard. I think the last time I bought factory 45 ACP it ran just under $16 so its been a while. Back then I thought it expensive.

I have purchased 100 rounds for $25.00 at WalMart a few months ago, so .25 a round, the cheapest I've ever seen for .45ACP. On average, .30 to .35 cents is "acceptable", but lately it's been .40 to .50 cents a round. So if you're buying A 50 round box for $20,00, that's .50 a round.

Online at luckygunner.com and sgammo.com and some other places, you can get it for .40 to .45 a round. I don't believe taxes are in the price or used for online ammo sales. Guess I'll find out when I do my buy. I'm looking at 2,000 rounds of Federal or more than likely my favorite MagTech for ball practice ammo.

I was looking into reloading, but the cost these days is negligible for .45ACP and it can actually be MORE than new ammo, depending on what parts and quality to use, but then you must also factor in your time and it's own value.

Whatever you do, don't be cheap and use Tula, Wolf, or steel cased ammo. Likewise, if you're going to buy stuff like Blazer wit hte aluminum casings, Bill's won't allow you to shoot that, but BPR or a private club will. Not all public ranges allow aluminum cased ammo. Brass is better, in my opinion.

Stick with the Federal red box stuff, Winchester, Remington (including the UMC 250 packs), MagTech (can't find that locally ever, so only online for that it seems), and you'll be fine.

Once again 50 rounds for $20.00 is $.40 a round

20/50=.4
