US Bank policy may have changed since the Sandy Hook shooting for image reasons and past experience may no longer be valid. There are lots of banks looking for business and US Bank needs to be reminded of this. If this is not a local thing and they stand by their decision, gun owners need to let them know this is pure discrimination and start pulling accounts. An editorial in the local paper may also be in order. Good luck.

I liked them, but I moved away from them in 2003 because they are posted. I'm with Wells Fargo.

have them draft a formal letter declining to open a checking account based on the type of (Legal) business you are conducting.

bet you a dollar they won't write the letter.

i guess gun owners are the new underclass everyone can piss on now.

To keep and bear firearms is an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT.

They can't deny blacks / women because of 14th ammendment. You are protected by 2nd.

Not correct.
The 14th and 2nd only protect you from the government.

I'll let you know how it turns out next week. I'm hoping if I push the issue in person and let them know I'm serious about switching banks, they might work with me.

Thanks for the input so far from everyone!

I'm not so sure I'd give them the opportunity to reverse their decision. I would ask for written clarification of their position, then I would inform them that I'm closing all my accounts and will be moving all of my business to a competitor who does not discriminate against lawful business owners.

I'd guess its a mid-level manager that as an anti-gun axe to grind. Move it up the chain to branch or national management.

If they still refuse, it would be a good idea for us all to look where we bank and shift accounts away from firearm unfriendly banks.

I've moved thousands of dollars of purchases over the years as my special way of telling someone that I disagree with their policy. Nothing better that explaining to a business that the only reason I purchased elsewhere is because of their policy or attitude that is anti-gun.

I wouldn't hesitate to remind the management of these banks where their bailouts came from, the law abiding taxpaying citizens like you. You have a lot of options to exercise.

Only written account agreement I could find online so far. The only mention of guns or firearms is related to a safety deposit box. They don't want you storing a gun or ammo in a safety deposit box. Page 20. That seems reasonable though.

I'll be talking to the branch manager tomorrow if they are in the office and report back on my progress.

My name is Joe Sirochman owner of American Spirit Arms and I wanted to share my recent experience with Bank of America .(which we have been doing business with for over 10 years)

After countless hours on the phone with BANK OF AMERICA I finally got a Manager in the right department that told me the reason that the deposits were on hold for FURTHER REVIEW …HER EXACT WORDS WERE …

I use Wells Fargo for all my business stuff, of course I work for them full time so maybe that has something to do with it. But when I went up to setup the business stuff they never even questioned me other than to get more information about training.

Re: Firearms business checking account denied UPDATE

Postby LastManArms on Mon Jan 07, 2013 1:49 pm

UPDATE:

I spoke in person with the rep that said it was denied today. She clarified some things as she understands them. She believes the hang up regarding policy is the selling guns on the Internet part (which, IMO, any serious gun dealer should be doing along with their other vectors). There is some wording in the policy about "majority" of sales of "prohibited" items being via the "Internet". I don't know what percent of my sales will be Internet vs in person since I am a newbie to the game, but I could guess Internet sales would be the minority. After asking more questions, it became clear she is new but honeslty trying her best. She said she has never dealt with this sort of thing but it was covered in her training. The bank manager was in a meeting so she is going to setup a meeting with the manager and the auditor who made the initial decision and call me with a time to meet. It is obvious that they have no idea how a federally licensed dealer works or the regulations regarding selling/shipping firearms works. I'll educate them and hopefully they will become more comfortable and give me a business account. I made it clear I will be switching banks if we can't make something work. She said they don't want that to happen. There is hope.
Stay tuned...

Make sure you find out where the "prohibited" came from, them or what they think the law says etc.
