I was there yesterday, asked to fondle a pistol, and Larry put it on the counter right away. He didn't hang around and BS, but I just wanted to fondle
the pistol so it didn't bother me. I haven't notice too many overly chatty gun shop guys, usually the guys on the customer side are the chatty ones.

I don't disagree with you but I do think that there is a difference. It was not just a change in ownership. The entire inventory was wiped out and the new inventory was Larry's personal collection. As nice as some of those peices were, it was limited. It will take time for it to be the mecca that it once was. Time will tell and I hope there will be aday where it looks and feels like the same old GS. Larry is a standup guy and was always great to deal with and I hope to deal with him again.

Unfortunately there is that difference. What he had tucked away sure is impressive. Hopefully with the surge in business he will be able to purchase more stock.

I had the same experience a couple times. But I couldn't ignore his prices or his trade in value. After a few deals and making sure I shook his hand afterward, he makes sure I get service when he can. Not sure if he even remembers my name but that's fine with me.

Me and the youngest was in there to browse and meet up with another member here couple weeks back. They were busy as you could imaginge a saturday during a buying craze and christmas around the corner. I was just browsing around as I was killing time more than anything and didn't need to see anything on the back wall. In visiting with the other member we were looking at guns and such and he went up to the counter and started chatting up one of the guys. It's simple, just start talking to them, ask em how their day is going and such just like you were talking to anyone else weather you know them or not. They are there to make money too so they will talk to you and help out, you might even help them get through the day quicker. Of course you have to want to initiate the conversation and of course they might not hear you or ask you to wait a sec.

I didn't say that to offend or undermine your experience, because it happens to everyone at some point. I am just speaking from experience of being behind a counter for 10+ yrs and needing help on the other side

I've had a similar discussion with my wife and standing around being angry/blowing me up with her mind is generally not an effective strategy

If you want to take a look at something, just ask. Larry is a great guy. I actually like being able to browse a gun shop without being hassled by a sales guy the second I walk in....

I'm guessing upon entering, one gets scoped out pretty early on. If you're not acting suspicious, and haven't returned to the same gun for the 4th time, they're going to let you do what you will. It may seem like a unfriendly environment to some, but just as I enjoy wandering around looking, I have at many times politely interjected myself into an overheard conversation to ask (or sometimes answer) a question. The thing is, in a gun shop people like to look at guns, and sometimes even more- BS about them...

Sure beats going to a scheels to look around and getting badgered by 12 salesmen that don't know what they are talking about, but some folks might like that ;)

Oh geez...come on Sam. If you don't like what the guy says after a few times, just toss him on the ignore list and his posts are collapsed. I did that for a few nuts on here and life is easier.

While I have not had horrible experiences at Gunstop, I haven't exactly been blown away by their eagerness to help either (not talking about the reloading side - they are awesome). They have good prices, and I am sure they are great guys if you get to know them, but I simple 'hello' to a customer that is browsing goes a long way.

Question for those that think their service is awesome (not trying to troll here): Would you be happy if you were shopping at a non-gun store (Target, Best Buy, Cub, whatever) and had to wait to be acknowledged while two teenagers sit and BS when they know full well that you are there? It sometimes seems like gun shops get a pass on service we might expect elsewhere just because they are 'gun guys'.

Again, not bashing Gunstop, but I have had better service at Bill's, Arnzen Arms, and Frontiersman (and nobody ever accused those guys of been warm and fuzzy  )

Yep. And if I am then ignored, I leave.

He's got better (qantity, quality, and "intersting") used stock than anybody in west metro and it's growing. Observations on recent saturday foray-

Frontiersman- picked to the bone
AA- not in the game
Gander-almost picked to the bone
Cabin Fever- slim pickings
gunshow- sucked

can't speak for Bill's, but I've yet to purchase anything there other than range time or stuff. Used gun prices usually at what I consider crack-smoking levels, so have not made habit of driving the extra 10 miles.

As for customer service, I have had great practical service from larry and rest of GS crew. Marv is sweetheart at Frontiersman. If I look at my store purchases over past 2 years, it's probably

40% GS
40% Frontiersman
10% gander
10% cabin fever

GS and Frontiersman earn the bucks by being competent, nice, having cool used stuff, clean used guns, and right price.

Damn, I must not get in enough disagreements to ignore anyone yet. Plus my posts are just too awesome to ignore. It's true ;)
