Well, since I live in Dakota County, it looks like I will most definitely have to vote against him.

What an idiot. unAmerican in my opinion.

Why am I not surprised the police don't want us to be able to stand up against a tyrannical government.

I like how he says "I don't think the 2nd amendment applies to x"

I don't think it's the sherriff's **** job to decide what the 2nd amendment means or what it applies to.

Good question, but unfortunately incumbent sheriffs regularly go unopposed in elections. Perhaps Scott will run again?

Issuing permits to carry is his obligation under the law. It's not like he has a real choice in the matter. He could deny them if he wanted to be summoned to court almost every day of the year to explain the denials on the cities dime.

Does he think that he had the option to not issue those permits?

Well it's a good thing for Dakota county that Supreme Court Justice Scalia disagrees with him. The Heller decision is a beautiful thing!

Also, I am fond of saying that the greatest by-product of the first amendment is that it makes idiots easier to identify.

New laws will gain us nothing. Not a single law proposed would have prevented any of these shootings. People like Bellows need to get off their PC power trip and let the people be. In the words of Benjamin Franklin,"Those that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." In a free country **** happens. But to strip away liberty under the false pretentions of school safety is just disgusting and in direct violation of the 2nd Amendment.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I sent Bellows an email explaining my disagreement with his views. He is up for re-election in 2014 and I will be looking for a new Sherrif.

I don't think it's the sherriff's **** job to decide what the 2nd amendment means or what it applies to.

The sheriff is actually the only guy with the "legal authority" to send the Feds packing if they try to pull some sh!t. So to the contrary the sheriff is exactly who we want deciding what it means, we just want him to understand correctly!
