AK 47 builder help needed.

Postby tabberski on Thu Jan 03, 2013 8:29 pm

Hello everyone, building a new toy. But want to do it right. So I figured why not ask the guys. Do we have any AK47 builders on this forum. Looking for tips/advice/warnings and possibly some help. Quite possibly some help. Kit includes a new barrel so will need to be pressed. Or is there a builder out there you would recommend? Really don't want to go that route, kit and reciever is already costing a bunch in our current market.

I've been known to build one here and there.

What kit, barrel, and flat did you get?

Do we have anyone who can bend a AK reciever flat?? I'm wanting to do one from the ground up. Without all the paperwork also.

Yes, I have a brake to bend flats if they have the 1/8" locating holes like the Tapco ones do. If they don't I do have some Tapco flats we could use as templates for drilling the holes.

You will have to bend them yourself, but I'll walk you through it. ;)

Shotgun News has an article about making one. Might be a good primer.

i too have been looking at building a gun, it seems to be quite a bit cheaper... if what im looking at is somewhat what i think it is. ive done a tiny bit of research, not much, but enough to get me interested. I dont know if this is on the expensive end of a parts kit, like i said ive only dug in a little. I looked on sportsmans guide and found this, http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?p=WX2&i=226222 and this,http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?p=TOPX&i=198280 now by the looks of it, all i would need is a barrel? still quite a bit cheaper than what i have spent on the ak i already have. I guess what im asking is, am i digging a deeper hole than i want to jump into or is it true that u can build these things in a mud hut?
