Let me introduce myself. I am a twenty-three year veteran of rural law enforcement. I am a hunter. I am also a permit to carry instructor. I believe in the Second Amendment. I also vote.
I, like everyone else was, greatly saddened by the deaths in Connecticut by the hands of a mentally ill man. Predictably, gun control enthusiasts have not let this “crisis go to waste.”
I am absolutely sure that gun control is not so much about “guns,” as it is about “control.” I firmly believe that the Second Amendment is NOT about hunting or shooting SPORTS. It is about the citizens’ RIGHT and RESPONSIBILITY to protect themselves; both from criminals and, more importantly, from a tyrannical government.
No, I don’t believe the U.S. or MN government is tyrannical. I, like all Americans, never want it to get that way. It would be silly to think, however, that it could never, ever happen.
That said, passing gun laws, which restrict the number of rounds in a magazine, or make a certain type of firearm unlawful to purchase has already been shown to be ineffective. Additionally, these laws only restrict those who are law abiding.
Criminals, from my experience, and by definition, don’t follow existing laws. THAT’S WHY WE CALL THEM CRIMINALS. There are plenty of gun laws on the books. We don’t need more. I’m sure the shooter in CT broke at least a dozen gun laws BEFORE he ever killed anyone.
What would truly be helpful would be finding ways to stop the mentally ill from acting. I don’t know how one would do that. I’m open to suggestions and am willing to help.
Please support the Constitution and oppose ANY and ALL new legislation that would restrict our rights.
Thank you,
tman
