More 'Posted' signs popping up

Postby Ski_Doctor on Tue Jan 22, 2013 10:28 am

Sadly in the last month I've seen more 'Posted - no weapons allowed' signs popping up around town. Some in restaurants, some churches, some in random haircut salons.

Unfortunately one of my favorite home-brew/wine supply shops (it has Midwest in their name) either posted a new sign, or moved it to a more prominent location. I've been there dozens of times and never recalled seeing a sign there before.

Yes I know, alcohol and guns don't mix (not should they). This is Simo a store that sells supplies for making beer and wine at home.

Sadly I may have to take my business elsewhere....

Tell them why you won't buy there. Also explain all the sign does is give false comfort to to sheep of his buying public, and confirmation to harm doers that their shop is prime pickings..

Haven't really seen that here in the mid-part of the state.

The last, and about only sign I see is on a Credit Union I am currently a member. Otherwise, aside from my employer, I rarely see postings anymore.

To be nit picky, the "No weapons" signs are not the MN requirement... They must have the following and ask you to leave:

1) have a conspicuous sign posted at every entrance to the establishment that states, "[name of the company] bans guns in these premises." The sign(s) must be in black Arial typeface at lease 11/2 inches in height against a bright contrasting background that is at least 187 square inches in area (which translates to an 11x17 sign). The sign(s) must be readily visible and within four feet laterally of each entrance with the bottom of each sign at a height of four to six feet above the floor;

As always, concealed is concealed.

Don't worry, most of these places only ban the Beretta 92 and 96 pistols.

I stopped looking. Aside from my former employer (no longer an issue), and certain gov't buildings, I don't acknowledge them. I also steer away from those who don't want my patronage.

Let me nit pick.

Some people here refuse to do business with places that post. It has nothing to do with the law. It's PRINCIPAL.

Now your nitpicking. It's the principle of the matter..... (and yes, I purposely used "your" vs. the correct "you're" for the sarcasm factor (GRIN) ).

Unless that store is Costco or some other posted place with a safe on sale... for example, then principals go to the wayside until the next time.

In short, I've recently learned here that those 'principals' are only followed in the format of looking like you have principals, until it's just not that convenient.

I'll make an effort to avoid certain places, but if I really like the place that is posted I've written them a nice letter. I haven't seen any changes, but at least they are aware.

Agreed. I'm blind in that way too and act the same way as you do. Even though I open carry (much toe the chagrin of some gun owners, but meh, whatever), most people don't notice anyway. It's a feel-good move to post signs to show they are "doing something".
