Fer one thing, USPSA Revolver division don't allow NOTHIN' hangin' off the gun!

They also don't allow anyone to fire more than 6rd from a Revolver, 'tween reloads!

Fer 'nother, NO ONE competes in Revolver division ... I know, 'cause I used to ... and even when my buddy said "hey let's shoot revolvers this year", he didn't!

IOW, no matter how well, fast, or not ... ya shoot ... ya'll probly take 1st place!

Yep, a USPSA field course can get up to 32rd! ... though, it somewhat rarely does! ... I'd say usually 28 - 30rd! If ya wanted to shoot USPSA, what I'd do is plan on 4 reloads (on the clock) ... that's 4 speedloaders, and somethin' to carry 'em in! ... load the other 6rd off the clock, as directed by the RO, 'fore ya start shootin'! If ya ever get a stage that needs 32rd ... 'er otherwise miss ... I'd jest skip it! ... jest not that big of a deal! ... like I said, ya'll still win!

Oh ya ... there is Major PF fer Revolver ... so ya'll need to make 165pf with yer .44!

Then again, if ya can't afford 3 more speedloaders, and pouches ... or to shoot half again as many rounds ... or yer otherwise too skeered ... then by all means, stick with IDPA!

My mistake for not looking up the specs on the Alaskan to see if it made weight for IDPA Stock Service Revolver division.
Bad assumption on my part.

So, yes, the weight puts it in Enhanced Service Revolver division.

But, so what?
What is your intention of wanting to shoot that gun?
Do you want to get some trigger time with it in a defensive atmosphere?
Then it doesn't really matter what division the gun gets classified as.

If your goal is to "win", then yes, you'll be at a disadvantage shooting against the 4" S&W 625 moonclip guns.

Personally, I competed all last season in Enhanced Service Revolver division using a S&W 1917 45ACP moonclip gun with the barrel cut to 3.25", and shooting full power ammo.
And had a huge amount of fun doing it. Hardly "competitive" with the light weight and short barrel, but I'm in it for the fun and friends I get to play with.

If you think you will be at a disadvantage using the Alaskan in ESR division IDPA, you will really be behind in USPSA.

The nice thing about IDPA is that unless you start going to section matches, you won't even notice at the matches around these parts.

Try out the IDPA first.

Well quite honestly I am shooting the gun cuz I have it. Why not? It was an impulse buy at frontiersman. It's fun to shoot! If I really cared about winning that much I would just head back to the skeet range And you're all right about the gun not being ideal... I would love a JM 625 but the next gun on the list will be a nice carry gun, something small. Plus, this summer my goal is to get to 3 matches. Not a lot... Some how I always just end up with a fishing rod in my hand most of the time.

Well, I can tell you that Leo would let you shoot it at Faribault and put a verbal B-slapping on anyone who whined. He's kinda good about that kind of thing.

Personally, while I like USPSA better, they are both fun gun games and whatever you decide to shoot, if you are having fun, you're winning.
