Dayton on Gun Control

Postby whiteox on Sat Jan 26, 2013 6:12 pm

He was asked what he wanted to do on gun control on Almanac on TPT on Friday.

The response was somewhat surprising. I have no doubt he'd sign a mag-cap ban or AWB in a heartbeat if it was in front of him, but he didn't seem like he was real excited about pursuing one like say Cuomo, Schumer, Feinstein et. al.

I'd say he probably has hopes of getting re-elected.

Here's a link. Jump to the 17 minute mark to get to the gun control bit.

He's always been wishy washy on the gun control thing. Either a realist (gun control -> Lose 2014 election), or smart (gun control won't solve the problems).

I'm scared. Hold me.

For all the name calling about Dayton being an idiot, he has great political advisers.

What I hear is that he is going to let the Feds do their dance and see which way the winds are blowing.
He will talk in broad terms about needed to do something but will wait for someone in DFL to take it up.
That way, if there is support, he can sign and take credit. If it fails, not his fault. And he can run for re-election as the middle ground guy.
If the winds are blowing against gun control, he has not taken any hits and if it is going, he can blame the legislature for not acting.

My guess is we will not see a serious push until 2015 after everyone wins re-election and feels more confident.

Class envy and warfare being stirred up once again. And as is typical with the Minnesota elitists the bashing of southern states is always part of the discussion on taxation.

I'm not sure Dayton takes a position or makes a decision on anything - He just does whatever the strings make him do.

He is a member of the elitist ruling class. Maybe they don't have to go through background checks. ;)

What has he done that would cause him to fail a background check?

I don't know that he has done anything but the laws don't apply to the members of the elite ruling "do as I say and not as I do" class.
