Man, First Dept Of Homeland Security buys millions of rounds of ammo, Now 7000 select fire assault rifles! What's going on??

As to the ammo purchases...

If the DHS needs to arm their guards and enforcement folks enough to equal armed threats, 7,000 weapons actually seems like a really low total.

Considering the fact that there are more than 40,000 Border Patrol Agents and CBP Officers, you are correct. Now add in the Coast Guard and ICE/HSI (also components of DHS) and 7,000 is not much at all.

Yeah, but they only need 7000 rifles for defensive use. The rest will be issued assault weapons with longer barrels...

I always wonder why firearms and ammo manufacturers don't take a stand against the government by not selling to them?

Yes I understand the money aspect....but if you take away 90% of their sales to private owners, their business model is kind of screwed anyhow.
