California already has passed laws to end the gunshow "loophole." Private parties wishing to sell firearms must go to a dealer, pay the $35 DROS fee, and wait the 10 day waiting period. The only negative side is the waiting period. I would not oppose private sales needing to go through a dealer as long as its still purchase, background, and walk like it is with current laws in MN. I don't think too many people would object either.

I think a lot of people WOULD oppose it, and I am one of them.

It's giving up more of our rights, and it's for no good reason whatsoever.

Has the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) inadvertently let slip a key piece of information in its investigation of the murder of an outspoken anti-gun federal prosecutor in Seattle, WA, in October 2001?

The FBI has, for the past several months, been quietly contacting owners of a specific type of Makarov semi-automatic pistol and taking the guns in for ballistic testing, Gun Week has learned.

Several sources, including a company that makes replacement barrels for the pistols, confirm the effort while the FBI remains mum, refusing to make any connection between the gun checks and the murder, or even acknowledging the gun round-up altogether.
But Gun Week has a copy of a subpoena that specifically asks for Makarov “pistols, barrels, magazines and aftermarket replacement barrels . . .” issued in Seattle.

One Makarov owner told Gun Week that an FBI agent said, “They were going barrel by barrel, pistol by pistol” in an effort to find the murder weapon.

Basically, I bought one of the crappy FAC pistol barrels online for my Mak. The FBI subpoenaed the barrel sales records from FAC and came knocking on my door one day looking for the barrel and the gun.

I will make a wager,(small), if the Bill to require all gun sales to go threw a FFL we will shortly see some changes in the number of FFLs given or
the rules required to get a FFL, maybe even a mandated fee for the NICS check, not much to start with but ever increasing.
Maybe add that mental health issue, not threw NICS but a separate form and another check system, nothing but the beginning of the end.

We all know this will not affect the criminal element, so now something else will have to be restricted because the people wanting this crap will
not admit to it's failure !! (It didn't work because it wasn't restrictive enough.)

By the way, those who don't mind it, what's stopping you all now from doing that ? I have a FFL and would be glad to transfer your firearm
for a small fee. For the children.

I'm completely against the person to person transfer requirement, nothing but a down side in my opinion.
Sure wish we weren't always on the defense all the time as gun owners of always loosing our rights piece by piece.
Wouldn't it be nice to be on the Offense for a change ? The only offense left, is trying to get back some of our gun rights.

The new NY law closes the "loophole" by banning private sales of firearms. All private sales must now go through a FFL.

NY also mandated that the cost for this universal background check will be $10.00 sooooo your local dealer will gladly handle the new and improved private party sale in NY for only $10.

NY has mandated that the FFl cannot charge more than $10 for the service. The whole wording of the bill is difficult to follow.
