Police stood in awe as gun enthusiasts and collectors waved wads of cash for the guns being held by those standing in line for the buyback program

I liked the end of the story after the cops started handing out IOUs and the sellers "en masse" headed over to the people offering cash.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

Just too funny.
To the two forum members who have used lines from my posts as their signatures, can't you quote Jesse Ventura or some other great Minnesotan instead of stealing mine? - LePetomane

I'll give our opponents a little credit for knowing their opposition here in MN -- this is EXACTLY what would happen here.

Oh God, I can see it now -- a BBQ grill, free sodas, lawn chairs, a card table here and there..."CASH FOR GUNS" "WILL PAY MORE THAN PROTECT MN" "CASH NOT GIFT CARDS" -- almost a "festive" atmosphere.

I think someone needs to convince Joan and crew that this is a GREAT idea

I cry a little every time they show pictures from one of those buybacks -- and there's an M1 Carbine or beautiful 1911 sitting right on top of the pile getting ready to be driven over by a bulldozer.

Purchasing firearms from people at a gun buy back program seems like a great way to add stolen property to you collection.

On the other side of that, are the police running serial numbers on the weapons to check if they're stolen? Perhaps they should also run ballistic checks to see if they match-up to crimes that have been committed.

"NO QUESTIONS ASKED" is a big part of the promotion.. Destroying potential evidence is a small price to pay to get dangerous guns off the streets and ending gun violence.

Great Idea- A hospitality suite for people turning in guns....

ETA We could even come up with a name like 'Citizens for Saner Minnesota'....

Or You could bring a Card Table and Sign to Keith Ellisons 'Town Hall' meeting tonight and hold a freelance gun buy back on the sidewalk outside the meeting. You'd be sure to get on the news with a "Cash for Guns" sign taped to your Card Table.

Note that the gun in the photo has the hammer cocked back, 50-50 chance the chamber is empty.

... not that I'm particularly interested ... but, what would be the requirements to puttin' together yer own "buy back" program?! ... bill it simply as "getting guns off the streets" ... (and into yer safe!) ... some sorta "event permit"?! ... Fleet Farm might even let ya set up in their parking lot?! ... any reasonable business should! ... folks with fresh cash in their pockets?!

... jest sayin'

... on a slightly related note ... any of these "buy back" deals ... if they're gonna "close the gun show loophole", would the folks doin' the buyin' not then need to pass a NICS check ... fer each gun purchased?! :?
