How exactly is he doing that? You have a source or some context?

This. I was wondering the same.

It would be nice if Federal stopped doing business with Minneapolis PD and related agencies. Let them starve.

The linked articles now mention S&W - Glock may have been an error on their parts or on the OP's part.

Make sure you understand the source of this edict -- its coming from Rybak -- not the Minneapolis PD. Another case of the leaders not speaking for the rank and file.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

It's coming from the highest-ranking officer of Minneapolis's municipal government. Police officers are free to get jobs elsewhere, they're not enlisted.

Today's efforts. Letters backing up our emails from both Wrench and myself.

I have no problem with this. If the mayor does not want to do business with gun and ammo companies let him quit buying them for MPD. See how that works for him.

I sent Federal a quick note pledging my future ammo purchases to them (whenever possible) should they decide to stop selling product to the city of Minneapolis.

From http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2013/01/3 ... -and-ammo/ :

Since 2008, Minneapolis has spent $593,000 on ammunition and $193,000 on guns.

Really? Since 2008? Way to bring out the big guns. I'm sure any/all gun and ammo manufacturers are quaking in their boots in the prospect that RT will not place an order with them in the future. Assuming a 10% profit, they would lose a whopping $20k a year. And good luck finding a company that's in the firearms business that is for more regulation.

In the meantime, I'm sure we all will be glad to get some of that ammo that he's not going to buy.

All that will do is create the federal office off bullet buying, and a federal contract- too large for any mfgr. to ignore, will be used to supply ammo to places like mpls, chicago, dc, etc.
One on one- a municipality wouldn't stand a chance against the public's demand for ammo, but collectively, with federal influence, they(the ammo makers) all fold

Saw this related article on another board:

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Without ammunition, our firearms are just awkward clubs, and our cherished right to Keep and Bear Arms is worthless – literally worth nothing.

Let me explain this threat.

To the best of my information, there are only two plants in the United States that manufacture smokeless propellant to load ammunition for our firearms. All else is imported, from Canada, Scandinavia, Europe, Israel, and Australia primarily.

These two plants are both owned by giant defense and government contractors for whom sales of powder for civilian ammunition consumption is but a tiny fraction of their business.

One is the General Dynamics plant in St. Marks, Florida, which produces for Hodgden, Winchester and others, and the Alliant plant in Connecticut which produces for the Alliant family of companies and for the Lake City Arsenal (currently under Alliant management).

If Obama were to instruct his appointed Secretary of Defense to quietly lean on these defense contractors to quit selling smokeless powder for civilian consumption or put their next contract for an aircraft carrier at risk, I believe they’d bail on civilian powder sales in a heartbeat. And, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could end smokeless powder imports tomorrow with a stroke of her pen.

You say that, but it's not exactly that simple; police officers have lives too - they can't just go get another job somewhere because their (elected) boss is a moron.

Why not? That's what I'd have to do.
