Newbie magazine gun ban question

Postby DogOne on Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:08 pm

Ok so it looks like I picked the worst time in history to try to buy a Ruger 10/22. While desperately looking for a 10/22 for sale for less than $400 I noticed the 25 round magazines and now I want one because it's there.

I read up on this and can't find a reason why I can't order one of these online. Are there any restrictions I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Nope, they are perfectly fine for you to buy and own. Get a few.

There are currently no laws in Minnesota nor are there any Federal laws regarding magazine capacities.

The only issue you will have is finding one at a fair price.

The fair price part is going to be a problem. I might just pay the unfair price. You either have it or you don't.

Thanks for the info.

The ones with metal lips feed more reliably. Not sure the plastic lipped ones are even out there anymore but they were really bad.

I have some older butler creek mags with plastic feed lips that work great. On the other hand my new pro mag with steel feed lips works like crap. Need to get around to sending it back. It is very hard to load and ftf often.

I've tried a few different brands of high-capacity magazines for my 10-22. The Pro Mags are notorious and my experience mirrors that of others - bad. The Butler Creek mags work OK, but the best I've used is the Ruger BX-25. One thing to note, however, is that the Butler Creek loader tends not to work so well with the Ruger mags. I don't know if the Champion loader works any better.

Pro mags are pretty low on the quality index for most of their mags.

While looking I found 20 round magazines for my other wish list rifle the M1A for normal retail. Pro Mags, but I still bought a few because good luck finding them and I want them later for sure.
Not sure if we can call out retailers here, but it was the big "C" sporting goods store if anyone is interested. They gave me an actual ship date, but I don't have them yet..
