Senator Barb Goodwin Response

Dear Ben:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding gun control. Taking the time to share your concerns on this important issue is appreciated.

As a result of the incident in Connecticut, it is unavoidable that gun control will be an topic that will come up this legislative session. As Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee, I will no doubt be hearing discussion about gun control and feel that sensible, sustainable laws should remain in place to protect Minnesotans and their rights.
I also believe we should make mental health care affordable and accessible to all Minnesotans so incidents like Connecticut's don't happen again.

I have introduced gun legislation that will prevent violent felons to carry firearms after release from prison. I do not plan to introduce legislation banning assault rifles despite the fact I don't see the need for them.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and concerns.

Best Regards,
Senator Barb Goodwin
Senate District 41

I don't know what to think. She says she won't introduce, but says nothing about supporting bills other Senators introduce. Sidestepping?

Also, "I have introduced gun legislation that will prevent violent felons to carry firearms after release from prison." Huh?

but she is introducing new laws to prevent violent felons from carrying after they get out of prison. Funny since felons can't do that now but that way they can't do it even MORE.

I feel so much safer that she wants to ban felons from having guns.

Wait another dumb Senator...Sorry but if she doesn't know already, Felons are not allowed to have guns.... *smacks forehead*

A simple violent restraining order pretty much denies you of owning a gun already, and she speaks of a felon!  I think these Senators should go back and read the laws reguarding owning a gun.

Yes we need more redundant gun laws!
I see no use for a yearly legislature to pass more laws!

Our money and freedoms are in jeopardy every time they are in session.

It is terribly unfortunate that someone of this limited intelligence is representing our district. She has earned her NRA "F" rating and is only vaguely aware of which end of the tube the round exits from, which is about as the same level of understanding she has regarding the role of the government in a free society. She is the prototype party hack and will support anything the DFL leadership or the various union leaders tell her to.

"Mental Health" is one of the many buzz-word issues she throws out to the low-information voters that put people like her and he ilk in office. She will blindly vote for anything that will increase taxpayer funding of further government growth. The current anti-gun propaganda in the mainstream media is just her latest excuse to come after the taxpayers for more without any regard for the protection of rights or liberty.
