Make a recommendation: Compact, concealable, Decocker, Safet

Discussion of handguns

The hard part here is it's not for me and the discussion of actual requirements is couched in looking at what the buyer is choosing to handle and which features seem to be important. I'm trying to give advice without directly asking intent and carry method. Testing my observational skills as it were :-)

I think Ill take the list and e-mail it with some comments and pointed / direct questions form there and see how surprised or not he is with the recommendations.

I like the looks of the CS-9. I'd be even more comfortable with it in a .45.
I need to shoot the CZ PCR. I hear they're very nice.
I wish I had endless time, I'd love to range rat around for a couple days and shoot all the offers. You guys have certainly been generous with the offers.

Second recommendation for a Sig P239.

Wife has one (two now actually :D ) and she can comfortably get her hands around it, which isn't the case with the majority of double stacks in the safe. Available in 9mm for lighter recoil (as opposed to 40 or 45) and Sig reliability/quality. Good trigger out of the box, and hey, it's a Sig, there's just some cool factor there 8-)

If you want to try another PCR you can also try mine. It has a set of Crimson Trace grips on it. I also have a IWB, OWB,(both K&D) and a Blade Tech Sting Ray if you'd like to see how it rides. I also have a P226 (not quite a compact) you can compare it to.

The safety is non-negotiable and Condition 1 carry is not going to be considered. So, that seems to mean a decocker and dsafety in a compact semi. This severely limits the list.

Thoughts? Opiinions? Derision :-)

The "small" part I understand, but why expose yourself to the chance, however slight, of a malfunction with a semiauto? Every small, lightweight revolver comes with a sort of decocker built in.

(Yes, I know lots of people get the horrors at the thought of lowering the hammer by hand over a live round, but if you use reasonable caution -- and keep it pointed in a safe direction, as always -- it's just not a problem. Also, the moment you remove the back-pressure from the trigger, the firing pin will not protrude beyond the recoil shield.)

Plus -- great news! -- flying brass is never a problem.

I wonder if the main objection to the revolver is its width. Not much can be done about that, sad to say.

I have a very small Taurus that is striker fired, and has a safety, if you like it, its just gathering dust here and would be available ......its a millenium pro .40, its more or less NIB, I think I have 30 rounds thru it.

I'm a longtime huge fan of Beretta pistols, but I'd be leery of purchasing a 9000.
Every one that I've handled had, for a Beretta, a very uncharacteristically gritty trigger pull.
9000's have a grip that is very long from front to back that some find uncomfortable. The front sight sits high and tends to snag. The safety lever can be stiff and hard to engage/disengage.

Beretta has also discontinued the 9000 and holsters and accessories such as night sights are practically non-existent.

If you can find one that feels good-in-hand, doesn't have a gritty/creeping trigger pull, and has a safety you can operate, then consider buying one; but never sight-unseen.

I really like my H&K USP Compact. It has all of the features you desire. It also comes in three different calibers that I know of. If a decocker wasn't absolutely necessary, the PT145 Millenium Pro is a pretty decent little gun. It's DAO. It does have a thumb safety.
