House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee

Another fun filled day at the Minnesotan House hold. Taking a page out of the Presidents playbook, http://votesmart.org/candidate/77397/do ... RQRMVqb9CM Don Samuels, surrounds himself with kids as he rant and rave about himself and making racist remarks while talking off topic. But instead of me attempting to spell out what happen. See for yourself on YouTube the entire hour and a half hearing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDPaXXC ... Tw&index=1 - Feb 7, 2013 House Hearing on Gun Violence.

Another person that should think before he writes a proposal is http://votesmart.org/candidate/143585/e ... RQQqVqb9CM Erik Simonson of District 7B in Duluth. Apparently he has a phobia of body armor, because the rational he used to justify his proposed escapes all reasoning.

There's another session at 6:00 pm tonight (2/07/2013). If you can make it please do! Even though these meetings are broadcast live by clicking on the Live Event link on http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/htv/schedule.asp. There's nothing like a room full of body's reminding them that we will not allow the lunatic fringe strip us of our God Give Rights!

Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 6:00 PM
HF242 (Hausman) Large-capacity magazine crime established for the manufacture, transfer, or possession of ammunition feeding devices with the capacity to accept more than ten rounds or any conversion kit, part, or combination of parts; terms defined; and criminal penalties provided.
HF307 (Simonson) Permit to carry application required to be made to a chief of police of a municipality, and if no chief of police, to a county sheriff.
• Public testimony welcome in the evening; There is no pre-registration to testify; If you would like to testify, please come directly to the hearing; All testimony must be regarding a specific bill.
• Due to time constraints, written testimony regarding specific bills will be accepted at the hearing or by mail to Laura Taken-Holtze, Committee Administrator, 570 State Office Building, 100 Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior Blvd, Saint Paul, MN 55155.

Also YouTube has posted online the previous hearings:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw7pTX_kDEg 2/6/2013 - 10:00 am

BTW during the presentation of the specifics between two 10/22 long rifles Representatives
http://votesmart.org/candidate/54536/de ... RQQ4lqb9CM Hilstrom,
http://votesmart.org/candidate/141002/s ... RQQzlqb9CM Savick,
http://votesmart.org/candidate/143585/e ... RQQqVqb9CM Simonson,
http://votesmart.org/candidate/141090/d ... RQQTlqb9CM Schoen , and
http://votesmart.org/candidate/biograph ... RQQkVqb9CM Slocum
left the room in protest.

Seriously, you're scared of firearms that have been cleared by Capital Police and the St. Paul Police Departments. The only thing I'm scare of is for the innocent kids in the audience you would coward behind if God forbid a derange lunatic came rampaging through!

Thank you for compiling this. Helpful. I also agree with your color commentary. I certainly don't expect others to agree with me (even if that would be nice) but I do wish they would make intelligent and cogent arguments when they are proposing to strip me of my Constitutional rights. Everyone but Rothman was too kind to the Rep that proposed the body armor bill. These are serious Constitutional issues that are of obvious importance to the constituents of this state. Just look at the turnout at these hearings themselves (when is the last time they had two 300 person overflow rooms filled to capacity for a committee hearing?). And this joker wants to discuss restricting an item that by definition is defensive only, has never been used in a mass shooting in MN, and is already made a felony if used in the commission of a crime? Seems we give them a pass and trivialize what they are ultimately trying to attack when we don't call them out and tell them to bring their A game.

Maybe Mr Simonson forgot which committee this was? Check the header on your materials packet sir. The public is just trying to minimize risk and be safe after all.

I wish one of the Reps would introduce a bogus bill to restrict marathons and weight training. After all, who NEEDS to run that far or lift more than a bag of groceries. It would make it easier for the police to catch and fight criminals if everyone else were weak and slow. While they're at it, maybe include steel toe boots and cut resistant gloves. They only embolden criminals.

How about a bill to limit the maximum speed cars, trucks and motorcycles to the highest-posted speed limit in the state? After all, who NEEDS to drive faster than that? If you have an emergency, you can just call the police or an ambulance.

If we can save one life, we have the responsibility to pass invasive and restrictive laws that punish everyone for the actions of one or two jackasses... /sarcasm

I swear I wanted to back hand Don Samuels! Sorry but as far as kids goes, it all falls down to parenting. Parenting, parenting, parenting!!! I cannot stress this enough. A child will be a child, but your child reflects how you raise them. Manner, honesty, respectfulness, responsibility, etc.....

Think about it, all these games have age restrictions already, but parents still buy their kids these games. Instead of saying, it's my fault for buying my kid(s) an age restricted game(s), rather blame it on the game developers and why are they so violent.

Parents are becoming friends to their kids, not parents. I know I have no say or right to tell someone how to parent their kids but parents these days need to take responsibility.

Good ones MJY & NZ - and certainly proves the point.

Regarding Samuels - I honestly tuned out after his first two minutes of racist and gender bigoted commentary. The people of the City of lakes are getting exactly what they deserve when they elect such inarticulate and divisive people as their leaders.

On a much more positive note - I am very proud of my freedom loving, gun owning brothers and sisters within this state who took the time and effort to have their voices heard. Many, many great speakers stood up for the cause of liberty and many more wrote letters and employed other methods to influence our elected officials. United we stand!
