School me on reloading Sam

Postby Thunder71 on Mon Feb 18, 2013 10:35 am

I've read the interwebz and need to know what I should buy because I can't find ammo and want to start reloading now, during the shortage, when nothing is available.

:D

Oh, tell me again how reloading help me with shooting my 22LR?

The funny thing...I'm having WAY better luck getting reloading supplies than I am factory ammo

I'm in no hurry...but I see reloading as something I will get in to. Looked at it six or so years ago...factory ammo was cheaper and my kids were more needy. Life changes, now is a good time for me to start looking at it.

I hear ya, I could have bought everything I need to reload 12 gauge last week... but I can buy bulk 12 gauge ammo of the shelf for about the same as I can reload it for (at least for now).

Not so sure about 9mm or 45, and what I really want right now is 22LR which can't be reloaded anyway.

12GA is all I ever see regularly

I used reloading calculators and even with components high right now it is still about a 50% savings on 9mm, .45, and .40. I just don't want to go crazy stocking up and end up barely saving 10% if things settle. For now it's all a timing game on stocked items.

What swayed me is seeing the volume per hour people pump out once they get used to it. Years ago I looked at only component cost and thought time would be too intensive. Wish I had researched more back then.

Primers are tough to find but once you get a supply the rest of the process is easy.
