.300 BLK Anywhere?

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

.300 BLK Anywhere?

Postby BigBlue on Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:43 pm

If anyone knows a place that has some .300 BLK could you post it here? Found exactly 0 from any online sources and various local places in the past couple weeks have had none. I didn't expect much locally since it is not nearly as popular as many other calibers.

Thanks!

Good luck. I managed to find 2 boxes of subsonic at Bill's in Hudson a few weeks ago. That is all I have seen ever. I've been loading my own for about a month now with brass I found at Gunstop. Hurts each time I have to scrap a piece of brass.

Pretty tough to find. Remember that it is safe to use 300 Whisper in an Blackout chamber (but not vise versa), so that may expand your options a bit.

Otherwise you better either start buying reloading equipment, or buddying up to someone with equipment to get you out shooting.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/731667/ in-stock (I never otherwise recommend RCBS presses ... but, it's the only one in-stock ... otherwise, try cruising craigslist ... maybe for that shellholder, too ... otherwise, I'd buy the $30 Lee wherever ya can find it!)

... 'course, ya'll still need to find .308 bullets, small-rifle primers, and powder ... as well as other reloading-related equipment, if ya don't already got it!

From what I'm seein', if ya don't go this route, ya may as well clean the rifle, oil the bore, and stick it in the safe fer a couple years! ;)

ETA: I remember the panic from '08 ... even 'fore that, when primers started gettin' crazy ... but this is friggin' nuts! ... ya can't even buy a hand-press anywhere!

I'm a little surprised somebody would get into 300 Blackout withOUT reloading. A wildcat round like that which is just begging to be fiddled with for different bullet options and those subsonic rounds, and people just want to buy factory stuff?? Was somebody under the impression that there was no difference between stuff like stock .223 and .308 ammo, and something like the 300 Blackout??

... fer maybe a year ... up 'til the SHTF ... Remington was pumping out a good number of .300 BLK ... at an ok price!

Now, it's like .380 was in '09 ... if yer not reloadin' it ... yer not shootin' it!

Frankly, it's gettin' to the point where, if yer not reloadin' .223 'er .308, yer not shootin' it! :?

LOTS of folks buyin' new presses! ... and I bet they ain't all fer .300 BLK! ;)

You gotta start somewhere, and I started with the gun. I suspect it won't be long before I start reloading (and not just because of the BLK). That said, I don't shoot a ton with any particular gun/caliber and I have plenty of ammo for those I do shoot, so getting a few boxes of .300 BLK would tide me over just fine for a while. I happen to be heading over for a lesson with OldmanFSCA soon to start that reloading journey.

Able Ammo appears to have some in stock, at least at this moment, although it's not cheap.

Thanks for the tip. $50 for 20 rounds is a bit on the harsh side though.

People have been fiddling with this round for YEARS, when it was still called .300 whisper, or 300 Fireball, or 30-221, or .300-221, etc

I even turned some custom copper bullets for my 30-221 years before "300 BLK" ever existed.

It's gotten to the point where if you aren't reloading, you aren't shooting anything but wheel guns or less popular calibers like .357 Sig.

I've virtually stopped shooting anything that ejects the brass for fear of losing that little chunk of pure gold.

I didn't recover any of my 50 or so cases up north last weekend. I'll find them in the spring.
