Ok, so this was an admin change. Thanks for changing it.

In the future, what should be the procedure for getting posts (ex: want ads) updated?

Right now I don't know.

We probably need to revisit the policy change.

Rucker is out for the weekend so let him get back adn we'll see what is happening.

You've got good people who have never caused any problems (Dean, Paul, etc.) on this board complaining about this edit thing now. This was the point I was trying to make in another thread a while back. Making board-wide changes to suit (or punish) a small number of users will turn the community as a whole off.

Problem is you can't just turn a feature off for one person. The system isn't set up to do individual rights to some, it's all or nothing (except mods of course).

With Rucker being gone for the weekend, it seems like the regulars could cope with a short term inconvenience until he returns to decide what to do about the "problem child"

Boy, look what happens when I take a few hours to sleep.

Take it easy guys. Rucker made a change that people don't like (editing ability). At least give him the opportunity to revisit it when he gets back. I suspect he will be open to suggestions.

Having 2 accounts has been prohibited from day one...........the reasoning being self evident to most. Busting jac's chops or anybody else's does no good. As a moderator we don't get to pick and choose which ones to enforce..........would you really like us to (pick and choose). Mods are accused of playing favorites all the time .........speaking for myself I try extremely hard not to.
Example: Warning and banning my "adopted son" was not a fun thing to do and I requested one of the others do it...........thought about it and ended up doing what was right...........I warned and banned.

Let rucker know how you feel about the editing via PM or e-mail.
You can also submit your name for consideration for a mod position ;)

Thanks

I agree, and I don't think that anyone is saying "TURN IT BACK ON RIGHT NOW!" They are just voicing their desire to get it back in due time.

And just an aside, you CAN grant or take away abilities for individuals. A simple edit of posting.php and a couple of other tables would add "Can edit posts" to this control panel:

Thanks David.............looks like that is an admin function or an initial setup of the system ... correct?

Seems a bit heavy handed to me. I knew exactly who 'Oblama' was, and took it for what it was, a joke. Not a good joke, but still a joke.

This place seems to be getting a bit petty lately what with all the sniping and threats of this and that. Yeah, I know, start your own forum if you don't like it.

Agreed, but you have to admit that there have also been quite a few good discussions since the heavy hand of authority began swatting miscreants.

Tom,

Yep, it's the user permissions control panel in the administrative control panel. Only Admins can see/use it. I know Mike knows how to edit the individual sql tables and scripts (outside of phpBB) as well, so literally anything he wants to do can be done. Adding the calendar to this website was a much bigger edit than what we're talking about here, and he did a great job on that (in much less time than it took me)!

You tried to do something that you thought good and it seems that you may have gotten a thumb in the way of the hammer, so maybe a painful learning experience, I guess part of the job. But because of this, please do not feel that you should not do things that may upset the kids, do what you think you need to do on your forum to make it the best you can and if the kids don't agree, they will let you know. ;)

Thanks rucker.
