It does sound incredible on the face of it. But as the comment about disease deaths shows, it's really kind of a meaningless statistic. Other than death by violence is very rare. And rarer than it has been at any time in history.

firearms deaths in the United States have exceeded the deaths from all our wars.

What about it? Are you saying it's inaccurate?

Actually it wasn't the GSW that killed most people, it was the infections that got most of them. Of course, many died from GSWs, but a lot of people actually lived after the fact, until the infections got them. If they didn't get an infection or were somehow lucky, they lived.

I say use the same argument democrats used against voter id.

Private sale background checks would effect people without ids i.e. the poor and elderly. How could anyone say the poor and elderly shouldn't be able to defend themselves?

Is there any live chatroom for tonights event?

It looks like Ron Latz is already frustrated before the testimony has even begun.

A pet peeve of mine. They started the meeting late. Many of those attending came from a long way away. have the common decency to start at 6:00 meeting at 6:00. Not 6:12.

AND the unfair costs and paperwork dumped on them.

I hope somebody brought that up in the hearings.

The poor and elderly get screwed constantly in many other ways......now, if this passed--the cost of the fees and FFL holder charges would deprive them of the right to self defense.

That's worse than a poll tax because a poll tax can't kill you.

Can someone tell me if Senate rules make testimony exactly equal on each side regardless of how many people show up on one side or the other?

It appears the format today is 3 for, then 3 against, etc..

Very moving speech from Naomi Koening. I don't mind the picture because it is a truly personal story.

Now an individual it appears is being removed from the room.

He said "AMEN" when Naomi Koening was giving her testimony. She stated that her child was being kidnapped and her gun was the only thing that likely saved her childs life.

And now the worst of the worst. Heather Martens is speaking.

She's talking about some German students and their understanding of German history.

Now Leroy Duncan is testifying saying that background checks are important because his brother (his hero), at age 17, killed someone with a gun that he shouldn't have had. I have no clue what that has to do with this bill proposed.

Nothing.

BTW, Minnesota is 42/50 states for suicide - not bad comparatively.
