Yeah, you got that right!! And it's PARTICULARLY unwise if the person selling the handloaded ammo hasn't even CONSIDERED the aspect of liability, or whether it's legal!! That marks you as a real n00b as far as being up on all the aspects of handloading are concerned, and just for the record if you're going to sell ammo to make a profit and you DON'T have business liability insurance (which is really spendy!) then you're a fly-by-night "if you bought it and it blows up don't call me!!" kind of person. And if you think you're being treated unfairly, let me share with you what happened to me at OGC one day at the 50: Was to the left side of a guy who was shooting a hot loaded 44 mag, which is fine with me, but the gun was "spitting" small partiles of lead/powder over on me, and it was uncomfortable, so I moved to the right side. Thought the gun might have large cylinder gap or something. So this guy keeps shooting, not terribly fast (thankfully!!), and one round makes a "funny" sort of noise. the guy's hand wavers, comes down, goes back up towards the target, and then comes all the way down. Yup, it was a squib, and there was bullet solidly lodged in the barrel, and it turned out that this ammo had been handloaded by the guy's idiot slob Uncle, and I was about two seconds away from having a 44 mag revolver with hot loads blow apart three feet directly to the left of my head. Dunno what I would have done if the Uncle had actually been there, but I'm sure somebody would have called the cops.
So thank you very much for offering up your handloads for all the rest of us to take a chance on, and better yet to put some completely innocent shooter standing next to the guy who bought your handloads at risk. Once again, the fact that you never even considered the aspect of personal liability or whther it's legal before you made the offer means you're really not looking at the big picture as far as handloading and safety are concerned, period! You want to get hurty feelings or think I'm picking on you, then let's hear how many years experience you got, and how many tens of thousands of rounds you have loaded. I got 40 years straight of doing this, and NEVER had a single squib or kaboom, and I STILL wouldn't ever consider selling or even giving my stuff to someone else.
EDIT: Just got back from me and Sasha working at Bethesda, and figured there would be a lot of flak, or Bender waiting to give me a colonoscopy with a torque wrench, and discovered no replies and a lot of reads, so some of you are probably yocking it up about the house troll finally getting a n00b sammich to eat. Then I looked at the post again, and discovered to my horror that the situation is even WORSE than I thought it was, and it's so bad I've never seen something like it before. And while the handwritten "recipe" note is pretty bad, that isn't it either. Read the original post again:I have 100 rds 45 acp. 230 gr fmjrn montana gold. 5.6grn 231 OR 6.25 gr n340. Win primers. So you got a box of 100 rounds of ammo, and it's a box with two different loads with two different powders, and no indication of which is which???
The Nosler #7 and Hornady #9 manual show no load data for 45 ACP with N340 powder at all, and after searching I did find both powders listed for in Speer #14 for 230 gr. fmjrn, EXCEPT the 5.6 grains of 231 is the MINIMUM starting load, while 6.25 grains of N340 is the MAX load for the exact same bullet. Oh, and never mind why the person who loaded this stuff up has the 231 load listed to 1/10th of a grain, and the N340 load listed to 1/100th of a grain! He must have gotten one of them fancy $30 .0000001 grain precision electronic scales from OldJoeBlow.com on the internet. The scale must have know that it was weighing out a max load, and kicked in that extra decimal place to make sure everything was safe.
Oh... Would anybody care to figure the odds as to whether there are some loads with 6.25 grains of 231 or 5.6 grains of N340 in there??Absolutely EFFEN incredible!! Never seen anything like this before in my life!!
