Dear XXXXXX:

Last week, I was pleased to visit schools and meet with educators across the Second District to discuss school safety.

I enjoyed the opportunity to hear from superintendents, teachers, students, and other stakeholders about the issues facing them, including ways to keep kids safe. The events that took place two months ago in Newtown shocked the nation, and we continue to grieve for the innocent lives lost on that horrible day. In Congress, we have a responsibility to examine what is and is not working when it comes to school safety.

As Chairman of the Education and the Workforce Committee, I will lead a full committee hearing on tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. CST to discuss school safety issues in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. The upcoming hearing will provide an opportunity to discuss ways states and school districts are working to prevent violence in our classrooms.

I appreciated hearing views from educators in the Second District, and I look forward to a robust conversation with my colleagues on the committee and expert witnesses on these important matters. You can watch the hearing here.

Sincerely,

JOHN KLINE
Member of Congress
