They seem to focus on the dreaded loophole, and I suspect that's why Kelly probably didn't think he was being hypocritical for buying another gun.

Yet, after being called out on the purchase he immediately came up with the "turning it over to Tuscon PD". So, this was meant as a demonstration about how easy it is to buy an "assault weapon" via just the NICS check, we should believe...it only took "minutes". Or at least it demonstrates how easy it is for a Navy Captain, astronaut, and husband of an ex-US Congresswoman to buy an assault weapon. Really effective demonstration of the loopholes in assault weapon purchasing

No mention of what he's going to do with all the high-capacity killer magazines that he also purchased as part of his demonstration, nor do I see what he's going to do with the 1911 .45 he bought at the same time.

I don't know whether be be more distressed by the lack of integrity or the stupidity demonstrated by retired US Naval officer and astronaut.

I see that now - my bad. You're right - most likely a publicity stunt to prove just how easy it is with someone with gov't security clearance and a clean record to get a gun. Big deal. According to the article, he wasn't able to take it him with him, either. Prove how easy it is for a criminal with a felony on his record to pass a NICS check and that might actually be something to talk about.

To me it's very typical of the problem of anyone with authority. They rally hard against something publicly and yet feel that the very thing they are against does not apply to them. It's no different than the priest that preaches the sins of homosexuallity and is secretly molesting alter boys. Or the prosecutor that is using prostitutes (Elliot Spitzer). There are tons of examples like this. Its sickening and pathetic that the soapbox breeds the sanctimonious double standard..

I understand your point, but it's not accurate to draw a correlation between homosexuality and molestation.

The research to date all points to there being no significant relationship between a homosexual lifestyle and child molestation. There appears to be practically no reportage of sexual molestation of girls by lesbian adults, and the adult male who sexually molests young boys is not likely to be homosexual (Groth & Gary, 1982, p. 147).

In a more recent literature review, Dr. Nathaniel McConaghy (1998) similarly cautioned against confusing homosexuality with pedophilia. He noted, "The man who offends against prepubertal or immediately postpubertal boys is typically not sexually interested in older men or in women" (p. 259).
