"Share of homes with guns shows 40 year decline"

Postby Sorcerer on Sun Mar 10, 2013 1:46 pm

Star Tribune 3/10/13 section A page 3. Done by a public opinion survey conducted every 2 years. Now if I were to get a phone call or a knock on my door from some one I did not know, why would would some one think they would get a straight answer. You call my home, come to my door and I do not know you, you will at best get nothing close to a straight answer.Useless servey. Wingbats thinking I would give usefull information.

:iagree: Yep, I read that article too and started wondering just how many people gave truthful answers to the question of whether they had guns in the house...considering the political climate the past 5 years. I call BS.

Are you suggesting that people are less honest about their guns than they were 40 years ago?

This. People are more paranoid about gun grabbers now (for good reason) and less likely to disclose ownership.

I tend to agree.

However, answering that you don't have guns in a private survey because you're afraid people will know you have guns (or judge you) will effectively make it look like there are fewer gun owners out there than there really are. And with fewer members, the chance of losing your rights increases.

No one who phones my home or knocks on my door is going to get any of my personal info. I do not have any stickers, NRA or anything on any vehical that would give any one any idea of what I may own. I love all the cool sayings that you can put on your doors and windows,I just will not put them on windows or doors. I will not trust that the person on the phone or at my door is not a thief.

Read that article myself. The theory that all the recent gun sales are merely the declining number of gun owners buying more guns- is laughable to anyone who has been in a gun shop of late. And I'm pretty sure it hasn't been too long since this same media ran a story about women being the fastest growing demographic of gun owners,

Well gee, we'll poll 2000 people and use that to claim what 300+ million people are doing.

I agree, sure seems to be a lot of first timers looking and buying.

No seems to be. I've seen quite a few of them everyday in the past ~2.5 months at the new job.

Maybe. Depending on which 2000 people are using.

How about this possibility: they called 2000 people in Cook County. How many of them will answer honestly despite the truth of having a little something "just in case?"

I have a decline of guns in my house over the past 3 years. I have an increase of ammo though.

With the propensity of newspapers across the country publishing the names of permit holders, why would any gun owner even talk to someone from one?

+1
And also 2k is still a piss poor sample size of 330M for the type of resolution they are trying to determine. ;)

Love the statistics concepts troll though, points for you attempting to lather up the poor math challenged.
