Since they bring up ethnicity, I wonder if the splc looks at the ethnic demographics of who's killing people in America; is it white, 'right-wing' people?. If not then who?

I'm not so sure they forgot... They're consciously attempting to marginalize.

I don't disagree and believe the truth is being left behind, but what is going on here is the early frame of the debate. If you can get the at large public frightened of the type of person who may be a threat, the next leap is to deny these people the tools to carry out the percieved threat. Your political opponent can be robbed of power if you can turn them into a common enemy. The entire motive is to change the rhetororical exchange and turn public opinion by name calling and dubious connection of causality. All that is needed to create fear is to create the perception that certain types of people are not to be trusted - it doesn't matter that the facts don't support it - you can make up your own supporting evidence and sell it - repeat anything enough times and it becomes true. People are generally lazy and will not take the time to do their own research, they will take whatever is fed to them on the 10:00 news or in the newspapers because they don't have time, the interest or the intellectual curiosity to go out and dig for the truth. Once you have alienated your political foes and painted them as a threat and the fear is in place, the Government can ride in on the white horse to provide the solutions, like we have been seeing. We live in a society that needs every contingency covered. I also believe that the over emotionalized responses are over done an because no one wants to be labeled (called a name) concepts like "if we can save just one life" Any means to achieve that is worth it because "what if it was your (insert emotional lever here) wouldn't you want it to stop".

I highly recommend everyone pick up a copy of Sol Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals" (get it at the library). if you want to understand how you are being manipulated, how to spot the manipulation and hopefully become a force to counter that manipulation.
