I got an e-mail from GOCRA that this will be held at 6pm:

Senator Latz's committee assistant sent us a notification last night that the hearing would be at noon. Today, the committee schedule was updated to show that the hearing was at 6 p.m. Strangely enough, the anti-gun Facebook page had the 6 p.m. time listed hours before the committee page was updated. Don't you wonder how we got sent the wrong info, and they got the right info?

More gun control: here it comes! (evening hearing)

A pile of anti-rights legislation will be heard by the a Minnesota Senate committee on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, headed by Sen. Ron Latz, will hear the bill, which he authored, and which is likely to closely match Rep. Michael Paymar's rights-stripping HF237.

We say "likely," because Senator Latz has still not released the contents of the new bill.

Please try to attend this evening hearing; it is important that we have plenty of gun rights supporters. The committee is heavily weighted toward urban, anti-freedom urban DFLers, who need to hear from you that real Minnesotans DO NOT support these policies. Their contact information is below.

Also, please continue to write and call your own senator an representative, with three simple messages:

I am your constituent

I oppose Rep. Paymar's HF237 and its Senate companion

I support Rep. Hilstrom's HF1325 and its Senate companion

Oh, and If you haven't signed up for a GOCRA supporting membership, now would be a great time!

Earlier is better, they'll likely have the same shenanigans going with tickets.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

I'm going to try and make it. Just read through the changes in the bill. The one that I haven't heard much about was the deletion of the loser pays subsections in the bill. Originally the state had to reimburse individuals in the event petitions were accepted/denied (based on who and what the petition was for).

Great way for the gov agencies and agents to bring frivolous claims against people that if they attempt to defend will end up costing them. Scare tactic to push their politics.

Another one was with respect to the evidence that can be brought to hearings. It has to be recorded/documented but not investigated. So they can out whatever they want on paper to sway the judge.

..and the addition of ammunition to all sections of the bill. Making it illegal to purchase and possess ammo if you're under 18, don't have a permit, pass a background check. Stupid.

Takes a lot of guts to try to punish us like that... or a lot of ignorance. We need to shut them down.

All of the bills submited in the House and Senate have done nothing to further the cause of the control freaks, and have done everything to unite and strengthen us. This isn't over for them - they will pay with their jobs. It's also not over for us - we need to keep up the education, promotion and political pressure.

This is an opportunity to turn a national discussion in our favor. We need to keep up the pressure, but we also need to capitalize on the chance to bring gun ownership to a completely new set of Minnesotans.

Well that was interesting (once they got past the snowmobile bills and Latz finished going through the entire bill anyway...). My first time at a hearing like that, a lot more posturing that I had expected. Anyway, Senator Ortman did a wonderful job, as did David Gross, Joe Olson and the Waconia mayor (can't remember his name). And of course the antis were full of emotion, but few facts. Still a little sick to my stomach after listening to Latz.... :blah: Luckily we weren't allowed to shake our heads so I didn't have to worry about getting dizzy.

It was a ridiculous thing to say it that way. I think he should have said any disruptive displays would be not tolerated. Apparently (at least according to Putz) he was just echoing a request "by a Republican committee member" due to someone who disrupted a prior hearing. I'm all for decorum, but people should be able to roll their eyes and shake their heads (and maybe even fly the bird :D ) if they so feel.
