I took a something out of “Protect Minnesota’s” play book and said that his bill would hurt communities of color and low income families. Charging fees on mandatory background checks for any gun transfer, would severely limit their ability to purchase a firearm to protect their children.

That's pure genius! Great thinking!

That's a clever tactic. And probably true.

Well, we tried, all we can do for now.

We'll just have to live with his bill. Hopefully in 2014 we'll gain seats & we can repeal it.

Remember -
His bill is useless with something in the house as well; so keep pressure up on that side as well.

Just because one bill made it out of committee doesn't mean the deal is done. It still needs to make it through the full Senate, and the House will need to do the exact same thing. If it fails at any point, then it's dead. I would say there's a better than 50/50 chance that they won't have the votes to make this bill a law. The difference is really us, and whether we can pursuade our own legislators to vote in our favor. I think we can.

Here's where the 'Media as the Third Party' comes in:

'Protect Minnesota' is parading around Little Sami Rahamin who is essentially the 'Gun Violence Porn-Star-of-the-Month' ....and they're basically saying:

DO SOMETHING, DO ANYTHING. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT, JUST DO IT.

The above picture is 'Little Sami' with his Mommie and dead Daddy...but I've got a question for the Pimply-Faced 17-year Old.

What would your Dead Daddy who immigrated to our Land of Freedom and Opportunity want?

Reuven Rahamim (Little Sami's Dad) was living the classic rags-to-riches story. He grew up without running water in Israel, immigrated to the U.S. at age 14 and worked hard to build his innovative sign business into a success with annual revenues of almost $10 million.

Would someone like Sami's daddy want to limit our freedoms so America is more like countries where the people are subjects instead of Citizens....I don't think so.

But in the Media the fix is in....They will show nothing that contradicts the Party Line that only 'Red Neck Tea Party Jethros' are concerned with the Second Amendment and the Bill of Rights.

Sorry about linking to the strib.

The backround checks bill (paymer) has to go throug Hillstroms comittee and he' screaming about it. "She has to compromise!" . In this case, the progressives have to learn that a conversation implies a dialogue. Not stuffing crap down peoples throats. Typical authoritarian. And yeah, the conservatives do the same thing but we are not talking about them now. So lay off. :x

Seems as though even if Latz did pass his bill in the Senate that Paymars companion bill in the House may not get passed out of committee because of a DFL'er. God bless gridlock.

From the Protect MN Facebook page:

"Contact Speaker Thissen today and urge him to break the stalemate between Rep. Paymar's bill (includes universal background checks) and Rep. Hilstrom's NRA-sponsored bill that doesn't include background checks and features mandatory sentencing that will widen racial inequity in Minnesota and do nothing to prevent gun violence."

Un-effing believable.

You know, I take this as a good sign. If that's all they have left to try at this point, then they're really on the ropes swingin' blind as they say. The "race card" is something played by people with nothing left to help their cause.
