Ahlman's was 20 over MSRP on the fv-sr's, and that's $70 over web pricing of everyone else (a measly 30% surcharge). No wonder they had 4 on hand.

They quote me about 100 over reasonable on another savage similar to what I'm after, and I politely just put it back in the rack after countering at $30 under their real price trying to make it an un-wasted trip, which they declined. Out the door empty handed, I commented they were a little too proud of their stuff as I left.
Half way between owatonna and mankato, I decide to go west.
Almost got a marlin at Scheels, but I really didn't want the iron sights on the barrel - too much like my 795 only in a bolt action. But that trip was at least well worth it - got Erik a rock chucker supreme, and myself another K of WSRP's and a pound of the elusive A1680 powder I've been looking for. Score!

Not feeling it for any of the assortment of .17hmr's (after all, there's ammo in spades for those, but still too close in cost to reloading .223 for me to want to get one) - I just want another .22lr. I leave without any guns.
Went over to gouger mountain (across the street from Scheels) and found out who ahlman's was price checking. They too had a fv-sr in stock, but it was 20 more than ahlman's at $299.

No surprise I didn't buy anything there.
So I was headed home without a rifle, or so I thought. I still had a couple places I could hit on the way through. First in line for the back 9 was Arnzen. Didn't expect what happened next: there on the wall was the gun I was after.

Not only did they have it, it was really reasonably priced too! So a few minutes later another 4473 is in the books, and I'm headed home with my new Savage Mark 2 FV 21" heavy barrel bolt action with accutrigger.

Marty and I had a nice chat as we took care of the formalities - a very smooth and pleasant experience.
