Not only is this ridiculous, but this child has a much better grasp on firearm safety than the pictures of Feinstein or those operators over in NY that have been circulating recently.

what do you think, If he had opened the safe would he still have his guns or( I ) would bet, he would be trying
to get them back.
Hell, I have a hard time opening it if the wife needs something out of one of them, we keep some papers
in them too.
I could never remember the combo. for any police search, with or (without a warrant) WHAT THE !!
Some of these people calling in child abuse is BS and they should be held accountable,in these cases,
in my opinion.
Glad I'm not on face book.

The parents played nice and stood on their constitutional rights! Then sent the police and the nice social worker packing .
It didn't hurt they had their lawyer on the phone during the attempted intimation of our fellow citizens.

You beat me to it, was just about to post this article. (another link http://t.now.msn.com/shawn-moore-new-je ... n-with-gun)

Wonder what would happen if they showed the kid deer hunting. Gun + dead deer = ASPCA showing up along with all the other departments

I never used to believe in the gun grabber stuff but I do now after the last few months.

It would if this lady had her way. This was her letter to the editor in today's Strib:

Might we greet the kill with a little less glee?

I’m not sure if I’m the only one who thinks this, but I’m really tired of seeing smiling people (usually, but not always, middle-aged men) kneeling over animals they’ve shot. I’m especially tired of it on the sports page. First of all, what these guys are doing is not really a sport, right? Can we at least all agree on that? Unless we’re giving the moose or deer the same weapons and equipment, so it’s fair, it’s not sport.

If the Star Tribune really thinks there is a demand for these photos (in color, mind you), I suggest you find a new spot for them — maybe they could be in the obituary section? The deaths reported there are also sad, and many are unfair.

Family’s Home Raided over Facebook Photo of Child’s Rifle

There's really not much to see here. There was no raid. There was a knock & talk. A raid would imply they made entry.

I bet New Jersey has tough EBR laws and they wanted to see if he had unregistered AR's.

Does anyone know if a .22 that looks like the kid's is exempt from any "assault weapon" legislation?

The fact that they even asked to see his weapons without a warrant, and then claimed they were going to get one, is completely typical of NJ. In my experience the police there treat EVERYONE like a violent criminal. Its completely different here in the midwest, and I am very glad I got the hell out of NJ.

They can ask, you don't need to answer.

Maybe it should be against the law for people complain about legal activities. Unless I missed the law against kids holding a firearm.

I was warned by family members a few yearrs ago if i did this here in MN I Could be turned into social services. That was coming from a teacher. It probably wouldnt have gone near as far. This quite extreme. But were being extermely bullied now and that doesnt mean we should take it.
Give me liberty or give me death... Those willing to give up liberty for safety deserve neither...

I respect that you are looking at this from the other side, but I disagree that this story (as reported) was simply one guy overreacting when a policeman came to his house to have a chat.
“I was told I was being unreasonable and that I was acting suspicious because I wouldn’t open my safe,” Moore wrote on the Delaware Open Carry website. “They told me they were going to get a search warrant. I told them to go ahead.”

Unless the guy kept his safe on the front porch, it sounds like they entered the home.
The picture he took showed four guys in police ninja suits, and a couple cars parked in the middle of the street.
I'm not going to call these guys jack-booted thugs, but I wouldn't argue with someone that did.

Dumb to post that picture during times like this. Not good judgement IMO.

Knock and talk.

http://deloc.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8175

The fight has officially been brought to my front door

Last night I was out with a buddy of mine. I got a text from my wife that the cops and dyfs are at the house and they wanna check out my guns and needed me to open my safe.
I'm instantly on my way. I get in contact with evan Nappen on the way. I explain the situation. I walk in my house and hand the phone to the first cop I see. Then direct all of em outside. Dyfs got a call because of a pic on my son holding a gun. They wanted to look around and check all my guns out, make sure they were all registered. Obviously that didn't go well because I refused. I had Nappen on speaker phone the entire time so they had to deal with both of us. They kept trying to pressure me to open my safe. They had no warrant, no charges, nothing. I didn't budge. I was told I was being "unreasonable" and that I was acting suspicious because I wouldn't open my safe. Told me they were gonna get a search warrant. Told em go ahead. Nappen (my lawyer) asked me for the dyfs workers name. she wouldnt give it. i asked for credentials and she wouldnt show em. i tried to take a pic of her and she turned around real fast and walked away. After a while of them threatening to take my kids, get warrants and intimidation they left. Empty handed and seeing nothing.

People it can happen that fast. Most people wouldn't have stood up to them like I did.

Showed up with the tactical gear

All over this picture

Image

That's a m&p-15 22

They never even saw the picture. It was all hear say. Just a phone call saying someone saw a pic of a child holding a gun.

That's why as soon as I got home I directed them all back outside

One cop went to make a phone call and said "I need you do go over there". I replied "your standing on my property and if anyone is moving its you"

I give the guy a lot of credit for standing his ground. I agree that most people in that situation would have caved in and complied with whatever was asked. I think it makes perfect sense for all of us to have a relationship with an attorney that knows how to defend against this sort of intimidation. In my mind, although it would never happen, the ACLU should be all over this case if they were truly doing the work they purport to be doing. Other than Marc Berris, is there a source for finding a 2nd Amendment saavy attorney? Does the NRA have resources that could guide someone?

I don't want to blame the victim in this case, but it is a good lesson about how much of your personal life you display to the world. Something as innocent as this photo can be blown waaayyy out of proportion. It is sad that it has come to that, but since it has, why make it easy for people to figure out a way to interfere with your life - is it that important that everyone knows that little Timmy got a gun for his 12th birthday that you'd want to let the whole world know about it. The lesson is there to be learned.

Personally, I find the concept of Facebook and most other Social Media outlets pretty Narcissistic.
