I find it funny that some people support voter ID but oppose gun registration. Lack of consistency right there.

Yeah, I oppose both.

Voter ID discriminates against the poor and vulnerable due to bureaucracy, costs, paperwork and transportation barriers.

Universal registration, due to fees, taxes, paperwork and legal costs to fight error by police bureaucracy, discriminates against the poor and vulnerable as well.

Exactly. That is the only logical stand one can take. Anything short of that, and people are being hypocritical on supporting rights.

Hypocritical? Where in the bill of rights, does it say foreigners or illegal aliens can vote?

Well, wasn't everyone a foreigner then? I don't think 'illegal alien' had been coined at that point.

They can't. What does that have to do with checking IDs?

Funny how this topic got off the tracks....it had nothing to do with voter id.

Well, some complain about Dayton's lack of intellectual honesty while at the same time refusing to confront their own. It's funny.

There is a difference between the right of a citizen and a natural right. There isnt a natural right to vote in a US election. However, I have been told by people from France they disagree with that sentiment and believe they should be allowed to vote in US elections because US policies affect France..

Before I can exercise my constitutional right to own a firearm I have to prove my identity and that I am not prohibited from exercising that right. I don't have a problem with being required to do the same thing before exercising my constitutional right to vote.

You're right. There's the gun show and private sales loophole.

Also inheriting guns.

So, do you want to insist on showing ID/PTP/Carry permit for all gun transfers, or admit that it's hypocritical to fight that while asking for voter ID?

The basis being my right to manage my privately owned property. I'm trying to think of an analogous situation as it applies to voting.

To be honest, I'm not very concerned about proving my identity and that I am not a prohibited person before buying a gun in a private transaction. It's the registration component of that that I oppose.

Most of the sales of firearms that I see here on MGT require a DL and PTP/PTC before consummating. I've neither sold nor bought a firearm in a private transaction, but if the seller required it, I'd be fine with that. And if I were the seller, I'd require it too.
