I don't, but it will get me a reasonable estimate more quickly than counting the entire can.

Another thing this made me think of (along with the picture above) it to measure how many rounds will fill a can one inch, then estimate based on the depth of the can.

For me, I could get 1700 rounds of long loaded .40 S&W into a standard 50 BMG can, 2100 for 9mm JHP ammo. the numbers were probably capable of adding some odd number of rounds, but as I made them in multiples of 100 on dillon equipment, that's what I came up with. They get too heavy like that, so I just put them in boxes in the ammo cans now. Less than half as many rounds in a can, but they all get inspected that way.

The problem with most consumer scales is that they're calibrated for such a small window. Either you have a light weight scale which is very accurate up to a pound or three, or a heavy one which doesn't get accurate until you have more than a few pounds on it.

I've got a jenkin's scale that needs a pound on it before it starts reading anything close to within 4oz of what's there. It's bad enough, I don't use it for postage anymore, because I kept over paying on small packages. It over states the load.

How many pounds of lead ingots in a 55gal barrel? I cant pickup the barrels to weigh them.

That's roughly 78 50-round boxes per ammo can. Considering you have 10 of those cans, I think classifies you as a hoarder. ;)
Quiet - it's a joke, but let him keep counting to prove me wrong.
I WISH I had 10 cans full, I do have 1 Fat50 full of boxed 9mm for the Wife to shoot.
You didn't tell me what comes after 9.
3896 that would be the number six after the nine :P

The weight count method is used for more than ammo.
There is a interesting phrase on the box of gloves that I use for cleaning. "100 Gloves By Weight"

I've been using 50 cans for my 9mm this year. 2k puts me just below the rim, maybe room for 2-300 more. Not sure how you're getting close to double that.

First of all, my guess was a joke trying to get OP to actually count how many were in the Fat50 ammo can.
And please notice, Fat50 can is much larger than a normal 50Cal ammo can.

Still haven't heard an actual count .......................................................... so my SWAG must be more correct than any other means posted, even though I know it's wrong.

I'm just going with "a lot." I don't really need to know how many are in there.
