A little bit upset...

Postby Rodentman on Tue Mar 26, 2013 5:42 am

Lucky for me I didn't post this last night or I may have said something I'd regret. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I can tell you DO NOT BUY A MAJESTIC ARMS mod kit for a Ruger MK I II or III.

I am sending the MF gun to them. They can install this "DROP IN" kit which can be done by anyone with "HAND TOOLS" in 15 minutes. What an unmitigated piece of garbage. In fact, I don't even want the gun back. They can use it for a door stop, repository, I don't care.

The gun was designed by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. The kit was designed by Jose Feliciano. They may have sounded good together but the parts do not fit and the instructions are worthless unless you already know how to install the kit.

Anyone know how to do this install? Oh yeah, and the extended mag release (another drop in part once you find the little pin and spring that they don't mention needing to retain) prevents the grips from lining up with the holes so I need to get the Dremel out and modify the grip. Decorative. And I need another jar of mag polish to take the hammer marks off the frame. Can you tell I'm just a little bit upset?

I'll be calling these room-temerature IQ geniuses this morning and give them a polite, courteous description of my issues, at least those relating to this kit. I'm serious about that. No pernt in being a cussing bitch on the phone. But I will let them know that I AM quite PO'd.

We'll see how their vaulted "customer service" stacks up.

Fortunately I have enough other guns to shoot and I have only about 1,000 rds of 22 anyway.

You should have went with Volquartsen instead.

I'll take your door stop if you want to get it off your hands.

Yeah, I think your right about the VQ. I called Dino and he said just send in the frame, mag, bolt, and parts. I did so. He cut me short on my "polite" grousing so I sent him an email with my comments. Maybe someone there can read it to him. I am sure I did something wrong, but I can't spend hours on something like this.

And today I got my 100 round ration of 22lr's from Clarabela's!

I have the accurizing kit from VQ as well as some other internal parts, VQ extractor and firing pin. The trigger pull is exquisite.

It was a project to do myself, but I wasn't scared and it turned out wonderfully. My MKIII Competition, is now, actually competition ready.

Frickin front fiber optic sight broke though. I need a high visibility replacement and it won't break again this time because of my awesome Pelican case, instead of just putting it in the long side pocket of my range bag like an idiot, so it can get all knocked around.

Rodentman,
I have not touched one of the kits you are talking about. But if you wanted to bring what is left of the gun and the kit to my house this weekend I would be glad to give it a go. I have had my MkIII all the way apart a few times, and you are right the gun is a pain in the a$$ at its best to get together.

My stock MKIII 22/45 has shot tens of thousands of rounds without a hiccup. The first few times assembling and disassembling it were a PITA, but it wasn't really that bad. I didn't add any kits or upgrades though.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

If you're near Brainerd give me a shout. I've installed the majestic kits a few times and have one in one of my 22/45s. I'd be happy to help. Do you have a mkIII some futting of the trigger bar is sometimes required. They are not too bad to install but the ruger 22s can be frustrating to a lot of folks as they aren't always the easiest to work with.

I depreciate the offers, but I sent the MF frame back to the turkey in NY along with my "comments." Next time I on't be so impulsive since I know there are people here who can help. I used to worry that people would think I wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed but now that we've established that over the years, I guess I no longer need to worry about that.

Don't feel bad! I'm more of a spork myself! Not even close to a dull knife! So I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Dino called and left a msg that my frame has been received and they'll send it back next week. One good reason not to have a smell phone; I really didn't want to talk to him, frankly, since I'm still rather bent that he refers to it as a "drop in" kit.

Anyway I guess I'll have to shoot something else in the meantime.

Dino called today and said they got the frame Friday and it is already done and in the mail back to me. Crux of the issue was that (according to him) some of the MKIII's are "loose" in that the pins in the frame that retain various parts aren't really friction fit very well and they just fall out once the grips are removed, hence the bunch of parts I was unable to re-install. Anyway, it's coming back and he said he polished up the frame for me.

If it works I'll be happy, but it will be a long time before I detail strip it without professional help from you guys!
