it would mean nothing to the US unless it is ratified by the US Senate.

In an amendment to a recent budget resolution, the senate voted 53-46 to NOT enter into that treaty (March 22, 2013)

AMENDMENT PURPOSE:
To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

I dont know if this is binding on our UN ambassador, but at the very least it would seem to indicate that getting a 2/3 ratification vote would be difficult.

I love the way the anti's never show the number of people in the crowd at their rallies. I have no doubt there were more people on stage than in the crowd.

I stand corrected, they're at least 3 to 4 times the number of people watching :rotf:

You have to wonder how many were passing by and stopped to see what it was all about. One guy looks like he's just walking his dog through. And you'd have think a few are from the pro-gun side.

That's not what the treaty was about.
To the two forum members who have used lines from my posts as their signatures, can't you quote Jesse Ventura or some other great Minnesotan instead of stealing mine? - LePetomane

"Anti-gun treaty proponents continue to mislead the public, claiming the treaty would have no impact on American gun owners. That's a bald-faced lie. For example, the most recent draft treaty includes export/import controls that would require officials in an importing country to collect information on the 'end user' of a firearm, keep the information for 20 years, and provide the information to the country from which the gun was exported. In other words, if you bought a Beretta shotgun, you would be an 'end user' and the U.S. government would have to keep a record of you and notify the Italian government about your purchase. That is gun registration. If the U.S. refuses to implement this data collection on law-abiding American gun owners, other nations might be required to ban the export of firearms to the U.S." [18]

This is part of the treaty. Does this look like registration or not?
From the U.N.
If national law enforcement officials were able to trace small arms back to their last legitimate owner, who might then be held accountable, this would form an effective measure against illicit trade and diversion. For that purpose, it is essential that the weapon be marked upon production and import, and that appropriate records be kept. Existing stocks should also be marked. Although many weapons are marked upon production and import, international cooperation in marking and tracing of small arms is in its infancy.

Why not? His big campaign slogan the last time was "vote for me, I'll do whatever the democratic party tells me to."

BTW, this is a serious pet peeve of mine. Anyone here, can you tell me how many times the word democracy shows up in the US constitution?

Done deal. The USA voted yes and it passed in the UN. It now has to go before the Senate for the 2/3rds vote to be ratified. Then we're all screwed!
