Caliber and platform aren't mutually exclusive.

The calibers compared are irrelevant to ease of carry.

For identical mag capacities a 9mm will always be smaller than a .45acp; that by itself doesn't make it universally more desirable.

I'm by no means knocking .45 or 1911 platforms, but if the round is as good as the fans say it is, why is .45ACP not the primary service caliber of the overwhelming majority of LE and Federal agencies?

It's because one round of .45 ACP will drop the biggest toughest attacker every single time, whereas 8 hits with 9mm will only enrage them and they'll kill you while you're trying to stuff a fresh magazine into that skinny little mag well.

FWIW, IMO, a Colt, S&W, Springfield, 'er Ruger lightweight commander, with a proper beavertail, in 9mm, would be an excellent carry gun, fer most anyone!

I would guess, if someone's interested in that type of pistol ... this side of $3,500 ... that would be a fairly big reason .45 tends to win out?!

Dont know why there so little respect for 9mm. Its not like the .45 guys are willing take a single 124 grain to the chest.

To each their own. The math I've seen on 9mm seems to show that its quite useful in normal self protection. However, I prefer .45. It's just what works best for me.
