5.56 ammo

Postby LumberZach on Sun Apr 07, 2013 1:13 pm

I was just at scheels in St. Cloud, and they had a lot of 5.56 on the shelf. It was about $12-$13 a box of 20 and it was called something like "Independence" but it is 55gr. FMJ and seemed decent enough from looking at it for a few seconds. They have a bunch of it though, if any of you guys are looking.

isn't the Independence ammo repack? factory reloads, that is?

I seem to recall the Independence 5.56 being an Israeli manufactured ammo imported by Federal. White and blue box, correct? I have a couple of boxes of their .38spl at home and that is US made though.

Independence ammo is made by ATK (Federal, CCI, Et al.) in their Lewiston, ID plant. It is sold through a couple distributors to independent retailers, not the mart stores. Good, brass cased ammo identical to the Federal champion branded stuff.

Yeah, that is all the stuff. I bought a few boxes, we will see how it shoots when the weather warms up. More just a heads up to anyone in the area.

Either they got more, or people are not buying every box, because there was some there today.

5.56 ammo

Postby dtapper2 on Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:31 pm

Scheels is notorious for increasing prices during a panic. Wrong? I don't think so at all. Keeps the ammo away from the re-sellers and in the hands of people who want it. Unfortunate? Yes, but it's just the market doing what it does best, increasing price. I wish they wouldn't increase, but at the same time it's nice that I don't have to pay Armslist price :)

Depending on caliber, Independence is NOT a USA made ATK (Federal) brand. It is imported by Federal.
ndependence Ammunition is loaded to NATO specifications by one of the best known Israel ammunition manufacturers, who loads ammunition for the Israel Defense Forces.

I looked again, but it does say made in Israel for sure. I am willing to pay a bit more right now. Economics dictates that right now prices should be a bit higher right now. Mehh, wish it wasn't so but I am not to concerned about it.
