I would have to agree that these prices are going to stay high for a while yet and that when the supply does catch up I believe the prices from the manufactures are going up so in turn the store venders will have to raise their pricing too.

Even if the panic ends altogether we are going to see at least 35% increase in prices over the 2008 prices. Raw marerials have went up as the demand rose and most can not be replenished for many years if at all.

I just placed a 50 case order for shot gun shells, in a normal year this has never been a problem. But today I was told I will be lucky to get half that and they raised their price over the last months price to boot.

Is the panic over?

The market is showing it will bear 50 cents per round and higher for simple target ammo. People are screwing themselves in their own way.

I saw generation 3 Pmags in stock. Went to log into the bank to see if I had enough in checking to buy the limit.

2 minutes later. Sold out.

In the last few weeks I have bought all the 9mm, 40 s&w, 12 g target loads, .357 i could afford at very close to pre panic prices... some of it was actually cheaper! I am not saying we are out of the woods yet by any stretch of the imagination, but it does seem to SLOWLY be getting a LITTLE better. What I have found is to stay away from where the hoarders are, the smaller mom & pop shops are getting some in. One shop openly admitted they selectivly ration the ammo(if they think you are buying to resell they quickly limit your purchase). I have the advantage of traveling outstate for work a bit and see a lot of shops that the metro folks dont get to and I dont have to pay for the gas!

I don't know about lead, tin, or gunpowder but copper prices have been stable over the past 5-6 years at around $3.50/lb. more or less.

The increase in the price of copper would maybe account for an additional penny per copper jacket in most cup and core bullets.
This is about "The love of money" and means to that end, "What the market will bear". Plain and simple.

I also agree that we will never see pre-panic prices again, if for no other reason than the fact that we told the manufacturers and distributors what "We're willing to bear" the past three months. They don't forget.

What floors me is amid all the greed, that the Cerberis Capital Investment group decided to sell such a cash cow as Freedom Group. Something that hasn't been as easy as they thought. Serious investors are still waiting to see what shakes out in the coming weeks in Washington.

BTW, was looking for a Warne scope base for a coworker's Remington 742. Made the mistake of hitting Dicks and GM, the easiest two spots after work. Nothing but Weaver aluminum bases and while I was there, I observed a serious lack of ammo. I know, I know, what did I expect from those two?

Any have a suggestion for a store on the west side that stocks a good selection of Warne bases? Otherwise, I'll just order it. Its a long time until deer season, so there no real rush.

When I can find a box of small rifle / pistol primers on the shelf at cabelas, I will start to feel better. $100 box on gun broker is ridiculous. I like to shoot a lot, and have enough to get through the summer, but it sure isn't looking good for the future.
It is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it.

Thanks. In the mean time, my coworker decided he wanted those rude, see-thru rings and base all in one, against my advice. He's going to hit some Walmarts to find a set.

They obviously are not from around the Northern states, just got home from a short sweep after work and found no 9mm,.9MM MAK,22lr,.40,.45,.357 but did happen into a value pack of .38spl that I am low on and some .380 value packs.

it is not over, prices will continue to go higher and higher. Supplies are so hard to find right now, it is insane.

Talked with an Anoka Federal Ammo employee today.
They are also producing 7.62X39, 5.45X39, and a few other high-demand items and will soon dump on market.
No word when.

.45ACP is already .60 - .90 a round for ball ammo. Eff that. I'll shoot .22LR only for the next few years. I'll take a few rounds through the .45 pistols I have, just to keep them fresh, clean them up, but rarely fire them. .45ACP needs to get down to .25 . .35 a round.
