looking for advice on 3" 1911

Postby gun_fan111 on Sat Apr 20, 2013 4:26 pm

As a long time fan of polymer pistols, I find myself strangely drawn to the world of steel 8-) . It started with a CZ and grown into a government size 1911. Next on the wish list is a sub compact 1911.

What do you guys think is a good one? Anyone has experience with a Smith & Wesson Pro?

Thanks for your feedback!
Did you just buy that beautiful firearm, or are you trying to sell that piece of crap?

I have the S&W 4.25 ...IMO, S&W has the most reliable out of the box 1911's! ... if I was to buy a new 3in, today, it'd be the S&W, or a Colt Defender!

For the same price: Detonics Combat Master: The original or their new 2012 production.

Rugersol, I really like my E Series, that is why I was asking about S&W.

Took a quick look and it does not seem to have a grip safety - should that be a concern with single action?

Looks sweet though!

You will likely get a lot of negative feedback on the 3" 1911, based on general perception. My personal experience, I have a 3" Kimber ultra cdp II and it has been 100% reliable with every type of ammo I have fed it.
A few 1911's, two crazy boxers, a fast car and a half fast driver.

I took a quick peek!... IMO, it does have a grip safety... not that it's needed!... however, it does not have a nice big beavertail... and with that triangular hammer, I can only guess the manufacturer is either sadistic, or retarded!

I was also gonna mention para... they make good guns, fer not a ton of money!... if they've got an "elite" 3in, I'd seriously consider it!

Colt Defender looks nice, really liked the easy disassembly with the dual spring system. Thanks for pointing that one out! I was not looking at Colt - figured they would be overpriced.

Ouch, that is the smallest grip safety I ever saw. Not that I've seen many
