Those old metal frame S&W's are nice guns. Used to be police issued before plastic took over.

I got rid of my 4003 because it was the bastard child in a caliber I didn't want to reload, but I'd love another one in .45 or 9mm. It's one of few guns I actively look for at the shows.

I once had a 457, that was a natural born stovepiper. It would do it about once a box, seemingly no matter the ammo, the shooter, the grip, or anything. I have know a couple folks who LOVE their 457, have never had a failure, and will swear by it as the best gun value ever. Not, mine. Never figured it out, instead I traded it with full disclosure for the 4516 (same size, stainless, ambi controls) which is what I really wanted in the first place when I settled for the 457. 4516 has been outstanding, and I still have it today. I'm just looking for something full-size for mostly range duty in the same caliber with similar controls. If I find something I end up shooting particularly well that shows appropriate reliability, it would someday replace the 4516 in the bedside gunvault, but not anytime soon.

You are the first person I've heard of that had trouble with one.But then it is a mechanical thing.Problems aren't impossible.Years ago I REALLY wanted a 4516.Never did get one.Now I'm very happy with my Glocks and other "plastic" pistols.

.45 is on hold for now. After the last trip to the range together, my wife decided she wants her "own" semi-auto in a caliber closer to the .38s she was shooting than the .45. I am happy to oblige, despite the need to now buy ammo in one more caliber.

+1 CZ 97B

If you want one even better than that, get the CZ 97BE (E for Enhanced) from Cajun Gun Works with the wonderful mods he does. I bought one of the last Glossy Blue versions from Cajun, but will wait a while on the upgrades. I'm certainly no expert, but I believe you can spend a lot more money before getting a better pistol. For $600, it's a lot of quality.

I do like me some CZs, it is on the list. The fact that CJW has a very reasonable tuning package is a big bonus. Now I have a lot more time to think about it and hopefully the opportunity to shoot some of those on the list.

However, Picked this SAR K2 in 9MM up last night for just under $300 for my wife to shoot as "her" gun. I am excited to see how this K2 shoots since I am interested in the very similar K2 45 w/ 14rd capacity. Based on a visual evaluation only, it seems like a steal for the price to me.
