It drives me insane every time the following question is asked.

How did a rifle born on the battlefield become such a popular sporting weapon?

Look at history, most sporting guns are a logical evolution of the battlefield rifle. It started with the musket, then the repeated, and on to the auto loader. In essence ALL rifles have evolved from battlefield technology and advancement.

But I don't expect biased reporting to show that side of the argument

I do so enjoy that type of conversation with someone on the other side of the argument.

Apparently we're allowed to adjust to modern technology for every single other kind of object -- radio, tv, phone, car, insulation, etc...

But for firearms, we're supposed to still use muzzle-loaders or single shot. :wack:
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

I don't get why they are going to do this show. There was no rise of the AR-15. It was invented. Then it was used. It really hasn't changed that much in the last 50 years. Yet to some it's revolutionary. Sheeple are so dumb nowadays...

I can see the next one already.
America's Gun: The Rise of the Colt Revolver

They both started in the same place; Law Enforcement/Military.

They both ended up at the same place too; People's need to protect themselves and their property.

So why does treat the Armalite Rifle model 15 so different?

Well, over 40 years of Army and Jarhead veterans who can still field strip an AR and put it back together blindfolded might have something to do with the platform's popularity. We know how to shoot them too.

Hi all,

Our team wanted to understand the AR-15’s immense popularity on both sides of the debate and go beyond the clichés. Portraying the AR-15 negatively is not the objective of the documentary and we can reassure all owners and enthusiasts that we aren’t choosing a side. Here’s a clip from the special: http://cnb.cx/Zg19V7.

“America’s Gun: The Rise of the AR-15” premieres tomorrow Thursday, April 25th aat 10p ET/PT.

CNBC must be desperate for viewers. Here's the email they sent to the President of the MRRA.

Hello Minnesota Rifle & Revolver Association,

CNBC will air a documentary called “America’s Gun: The Rise of AR-15” on Thursday, April 25th at 10pm ET/PT, which I feel may be of great relevance to you and your association.

With approximately 4 million in circulation, the AR-15 is one of the most popular and misunderstood rifles in America. The documentary offers a window into the larger debate and the incendiary issues that surround it. Appealing to gun lovers and gun haters, it centers on the friction between those who abhor a rifle they believe belongs only on a battlefield, and those Americans who insist owning one is their inalienable right. Below are a few clips that showcase the life around the AR-15:

Tune-in Details: “America’s Gun: The Rise of the AR-15” on CNBC Thursday, April 25th 10pm ET/PT.

They posted a stat on Twitter last night. It proclaimed that they are over 59,000 gun shops in America, which is more than some national fast food chains and coffee shop chains combined.

I tweeted back "You need to be alive to eat"

Take that CNBC!

Why would I watch a show about a rifle that I already know more about than they can possibly tell me?

I won't learn anything new, and I will probably just get pissed off with the anti-gun part of the program. No thanks.

Edit: If it's truly impartial, congrats. But I'm sure it will appeal more to the misinformed public than to the average AR enthusiast.
