If it is cost, nothing much I can do to control that aspect. Ammo costs what it does, that's sad and that's when you can find it. Their fees are on their websites. Trainers I bring in are nationally ranked shooting champions, often they are authors and/or national and international experts (like John Farnam/Massad Ayoob) in their fields who are at the top of their games. They generally fly in, have car and hotel/meal expenses and have a travel day on each side of the class. Plus we have to cover range fees and their minimum charges, targets, water, supplies, insurance, etc. My cut is a free seat if I get 10 students to attend ( see their website) and I can sell that seat or take it myself.
Sometimes you get lucky and a national champion like Ben Stoeger can drive over for a class and avoid these expenses. Seeklander and Lund live in Tulsa, Vogel made a 12 hr drive from Ohio to join us this past weekend. Reports are the 6 folks who attended Vogel had a great class with a great guy who is the current World Champion. No surprise, Robert Vogel is an awesome shooter and trainer. Ron waived his range minimums and I made $25 gross hosting Robert Vogel this year. I was glad to do it, we had the World Champion in MN again.
Is it quality, well, I'm not a 3 Gunner but Chief Bryan Payne the head of MN 3 Gun said Mike and Erik were both great 3 gun shooters and had fine reps as instructors. Jomar V posted the same thing here and said, BTW, they are nice guys to hang out with too. I don't think most folks question the skills and training provided by any of the trainers I host.
Nothing personal, I don't know you, but I can't host these classes with national experts for $100 a day. Quality costs, whether its guns, gear or training.
For the 5 hour class I hosted this past weekend, we had to charge $175 for just over 5 hours of training for Don Larson's Defensive Pistol 1. We had 10 folks there. We had 5 fully trained, highly certified experienced instructors there to assist these folks in getting safely started in holster work and basic drills. Everyone I heard from so far found the training useful, relevant and appreciated the hands on personal attention.
