Postby punisher2099* on Wed May 08, 2013 2:48 am

I am torn between these finely made and sexy pistols a Smith and Wesson 629-6 performance center and the other a desert eagle 44mag???what one do I get when I get the chance? Can either cycle 44special ammo? What type of accessories do they have available such as grips, sight attachments, holsters???decisons!? Please help lol 8-)

That is a tough one. I love wheelguns and the S&W line are great ones to have. However, a DE in .44 Mag was the first DE I ever got to shoot and there was magic in the air. I can not speak from experience but as heavy as that slide is, I seriously doubt a DE will cycle 44 SPL. I could be wrong however. If that ability is a deal breaker, then you don't have much choice other than to go with the 629. Both are a Win-Win if you have the disposable income.

I know S&W's had a few different PC 629's ... their latest certainly hit my radar ... infernal-lock, 'n all!

I have shot a DE ... I don't care to own one myself ... but it is a very cool gun!

Tough choice!

Fer myself, I believe I'd hafta go with the 629 ... if fer no other reason, I don't hafta go scrounging fer my brass! ;)

That said, I personally prefer a Ruger Flattop! 8-)

Due to the gas operation cycling system of the Desert Eagle, it requires High quality full power .44 Magnum loads to operate properly.

I have a Mark VII in .44 Magnum, and it's more of a "novelty" gun than anything.

Between your two choices I would go with the S&W.

But if you really want the DE, by all means get it! Once you own one, you will not want to get rid of it.

You have gun lust and are as confused as a yearling buck in his first rut, and are looking at apples and oranges and trying to make a comparison where none exists. The 629 is a classic, holds six shots. and is carryable, particularly if you like Clint Eastwood movies. It will shoot any 44 Special or 44 Magnum load round, EXCEPT the XXHot loads you can cook up for a Ruger Super Blackhawk or Redhawk. The DE is a FIVE POUND boat anchor, only eats JACKETED ammo, and is only designed to shoot full power 240 grain bullets with 24 grains of H110 underneath. There are really no reloading options for the DE. You can do anything imaginable with 44 mag brass cooking up a 44 Special lead load up to a 44 mag JHP hunting or bad guy stopping load. So get your head right, and get off my lawn!!

629 unless your main criteria for this purchase is ghetto-fabulousness.

625 love the full size and it is in a caliber that is cheaper to shoot for me at least.

Had to say something different that a 629. :D

... and moon clips!

...also, send the cylinder to Clark custom to be reamed fer .460 Rowland!

If money grew on trees, I'd have a dozen 625's!

I agree there are SOME limitations, but it's not THAT bad. I have used VV N340, N350 and 3N37 with success (not just N110) and the same goes for AA#5 and AA#7 (not just AA#9).
That said, a max load of H110 is max fun, but saying a DE ONLY eats a max load is just repeating a myth that's been around forever.
Men may argue forever on what wins their wars, and welter in cons and pros, and seek for the answer at history's doors, but the man with the rifle knows.
