MN3GG 3-GUN SKILLS BUILDER

Postby J.Schmitt on Tue Mar 26, 2013 8:00 pm

MN3GG SKILLS BUILDER CLASS, APRIL 27We have the go ahead to put on the skills builder clinic at the SCAPSA facility
on April 27. The hours will be 0800 to approx 1500. This 1 day clinic will
be tailored to the skills needed to operate all 3 firearms in a safe and
efficient manner.

Shooters with limited 3 gun experience will benefit from this
clinic and have a 3 gun match at the Minnetonka Game and Fish Range on the
following day, April 28, to put the skills to use.

NOTE: You need to have a
zero on your rifle as we will not be doing this at the range. You will need a
minimum of 100 round of rifle, 100 shotgun shells (low brass #7 1/2 or 8 shot,
and 150 round of pistol. These are the minimums and you may want to have a
little extra on hand and can definitly shoot more if you have more. I know ammo is tough to come by so we will maximize the
training value of all rounds fired. The so called hozer shooting will not be
part of this training and we won’t indiscriminately burn ammo.

The fee for the day will be 40 dollars. 20 dollars for Junior shooters and they
will need an adult to accompany them and remain at the range. The adult is not
required to attend the training.

The individuals who are volunteering to instruct all have extensive law
enforcement training in the use firearms and are active 3 gun shooters.

We will cover.

1. Appropriate and safe manipulation of all firearms.

2. Shooting positions with the rifle for maximum precision while engaging small
targets.

3. Gear and equipment

4. Transitions between guns to ensure safety and maximize time saving on the
stage.

5. Abandonment of gun

6. Shotgun loading techniques.

7. Rules of the Game

PLEASE REPLY TO GET YOUR NAME ON THE LIST. WE WILL PROBABLY ONLY ACCEPT 30 SHOOTERS.

THANKS
JAY

Respond to me at jay@mn3gungroup.org if you are going to attend. This will be a preregistration event.

In addition, if you wanted a MN3GG t-shirt and did not give me a name and a size at the last match, send it now, I will have the shirts for the training day and the next match April 28, 15 dollars, approx price.

Wish this would have been available when I first started. I would have signed up in a heartbeat.....probably still should.

For those of you who just started, are thinking about getting into it or are maybe just struggling in a specific area. This is the best investment you could ever make. Make no mistake, this is a chance to learn from some of the best shooters in the nation. You'll learn more with these guys in 5 hours than you will at 5 entire matches trying to figure it out on your own.

I'm not BS'n you, or trying to sell anything just because these guys are my freinds. I'm saying this because I want new shooters succeed and to see the sport grow, as do the guys hosting this. You will never find another training opportunity like this for $40 and I promise you won't regret it.

I obtained two 6-round California Competition Works shell carriers available for people to use during the skills builder course. These are meant to be shared by folks who does not have any carriers to use. After the course, both carriers are up for sale for $15 each.

Here are what those carriers look like: http://www.dillonprecision.com/content/ ... l_Stripper

I also have gear to lend out. Jomar, Casey Carlson contacted me about those and wants to buy them, said he talked with you at the shotgun match.

I'm glad Casey can make it to the skills builder, he didn't think he got in as of last weekend.

Casey talked about buying the carriers from me last weekend after I let him use them for the shotgun match, but I turned him down as I wanted to have them available for shared use during the skills builder. If he still wants them after they are used at the skills builder, he can have first dibs on them.

Wow, mad props to all the guys making this happen and a big "Thank you" for all you do for the sport of 3-gun. It hasn't gone unnoticed.
With the skills builder full and the nice weather forecasted, I'm predicting the biggest turnout to date for Sundays match. See you all there.

When you say we get started at 8 does that include setup or are people showing up before 8 to do that?

It was a long day, and I hope all of those that attended got something out of the course. Thanks to all that attended. It's always a pleasure to work with those that are willing to learn and try new techniques. The course fee collected will help the MN3GG obtain more targets for the matches. We the instructors were all volunteers so the fee you paid all goes back to helping the matches we run for you get even better.

My only disapointment for the day were those who signed up and were reserved slots but did not show up. The class was full as we limited the size to be able to give the folks a quality effort from us, so we turned away some people who really wanted to come. Unfortunately, those who did not come wasted the opportunity not only for the MN3GG to be able to afford more targets, but also the opportunity for those we had to turn away.

To those that showed up, remember that the techniques we showed you only becomes as good as you practice it. Becoming proficient takes time and practice. Remember to start slow and smooth out the rough edges. From there, smooth is fast.

Looking forward to tomorrow's match when we can see you guys put some of your new skills to work.

Special thanks to Ken Anderson of Nordic Components and Tim Ubl of TACCOM. Both had gears and other products available at the range which folks were able to buy right on sight.

Also special thanks to Ryan Johnson of Blue Line Gear (http://www.bluelinegear.com) for donating a couple of trauma kits to the SCAPSA club (our host range). On top of the donation, Ryan took the time to hold a impromptu mini-class for the SCAPSA staff on the use of these kits in an event of a medical emergency.

Dang, I've been playing with the thought of trying 3-gun and I live right down the road from Minnetonka G&F. Hopefully there will be another class like this coming up, I know a couple people that'd be interested.
