More Gander Mountain Pricing Follies...

Postby Seismic Sam on Thu May 30, 2013 9:05 pm

So I go into the Woodbury GM Superstore to see if there are any used guns, and it's even less than usual.

On the way out, I see this:

Image

I have no idea what the going price for Tannerite is, and if I want a big explosion I just haul out my 500 Smith with some stiff loads. It's cheaper, too! Plus, I can safely be inside the primary blast radius!!

Then I notice this small green sticker on the boxes, and look closer. :( :o  :? Are you EFFEN kidding me??

Image

The normal Gander Mountain price for Tannertite is 25% ABOVE retail, and they are having a sale so it's one PENNY less than full list??

So are they that stupid to put this stuff out with the green stickers on it, or are they that arrogant and scornful of their customers that they put this insult out in full sight and expect people to just buy it any way?? Really not sure about that.

Finally decided WHY the "sale" price is one measly cent less that the stated retail value, and I'm pretty sure it has to do with the truth in advertising laws. You can't legally say that something is on sale unless it's below the MSRP, which is $80.00, so that's why they selected the price of $79.99.

Almost as bad as going to a reloading store run by ME, where I would put up with about three dumb questions, stuff a reloading manual in your ear, charge you for the manual, and then boot you out the door and tell you not to come back until you read the whole EFFEN thing.

At least I'd be trying to wise you up. Gander Mountain just wants you to STFU, pay up, and get out, and they don't give a s**t what you think about their service or pricing.

I saw that when I stopped in a few days ago- I thought Fleet Farm had it for $17.99 about three months ago for four of the mayo jar-sized targets. Not sure what they are selling it for now, though.

I make a weekly trip to Fleet Farm in Lakeville and then go across 35 to Gander. I never fail to be astounded by the price difference between the two on so many common items.

That being said, I can't always fault Gander because they must be selling Tannerite at that price point to enough people to keep it profitable to have the shelf space.

I happen to like frequenting Gander- whenever I want to know how much I shouldn't pay for things they're the first place I go.

I usually go to Gander if I know I need something that day, Fleet Farm is on the other side of town, which could be a 15 minute drive one way depending on traffic, not worth the time/gas money to go there for one item usually.

Besides, they do occasionally have a good deal on something I don't need. :D

OGC has been selling ammo for many years for paying public customers who want to shoot there, and up until a few years ago we would tell that that it was cheaper to go to Gander Mountain across the freeway, as seeing as you can shoot ALLL DAY at OGC for $20, they sometimes bought ours and sometimes went to Gander. In the last two years, I think that wisdom has completely gone out the window, and if we have a caliber (and our selection isn't that big...) it's a better buy at the club. As in the past for quite a few years, we have a limit of one box of ammo per customer who has already bought a pass for shooting that day.

This is the 3rd or 4th post I've seen complaining about Gander, so why do people go there and then b-h abou it?
I don't like Glocks, so I don't buy a Glock. Problem solved.
I don't like Gander, so I don't go there, again, problem solved. Easy peasy. Why torture yourself?

How can a guy shoot all day with one box of ammo? ;)

Maybe we can solve an ignorance problem and turn people away from GM so they end up lowering their prices. I only buy stuff on sale, sometimes they have ammo on sale/closeout and it's about 50% off of their normal price. That puts it just under buying it online with shipping. As an example, I got a 420 case of M855 a year and a half ago for $135 on sale, after the sale it was $280 and stayed there until panic prices jacked it to $499+ last Winter. I only bought one because I stupidly assumed it would be on sale again. If you're lucky you can sometimes hit a decent deal at GM, in the mean time, b!tch away...it's certainly justifiable...

You keep going because once in a blue moon they screw up and price a used gun TOO LOW, and IIRC, 1911 fan lucked into a vintage S&W revolver for like $300!! That's the only reason I go there. And they do deserve to have a ton of s**t, disgust, and derision for their pricing and other stuff shoved their way, and last I looked, the 1st Amendment was still there, so I can bitch as much as I want!! And would I continue to heap s**t on some business or restaurant that actively discriminates against CP holders?? Hell yeah!! Why just ignore the place when you can preach what a shi**y place they are whenever you feel like it??

And on the other side of the coin, there's the infamous EFFEN Gopher Bar, where management reserves the right to make rude comments about jo' mammy, Obammy, and fiffy cents if you AREN'T locked and loaded!! Best EFFEN dive bar in town!!

Sam, I think you SHOULD open a reloading shop! I'd pay YOU to let me work there because it would be worth it for the entertainment!

I got a Security-six (blued, long bbl) at the Lakeville store for $199. It's in awesome shape. Been shooting it with a big grin on my face since the day I bought it. When I said, "I'll take that one," the guy behind the counter seemed like he didn't want to hand it to me.
