Glock 23 Gen 4 Mag feed problem

Postby Garret7857 on Fri Jun 07, 2013 11:01 pm

I just purchased a Glock 23 Gen 4 yesterday and I just noticed that when I load a magazine up with 13 rounds, which is how many it claims to hold, it takes a bit of muscle to get the magazine to lock into the gun, but when I take just 1 round out to make it 12 it goes in fine. I tried with 3 different magazines and am using Hornady Critical Duty .40 S&W ammo and have also noticed just getting that 13th round into the magazine requires a bit of muscle as well.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?

Put the last round in the mag like you mean it. Put the mag in the gun like you mean it. Problem solved.

There is no issue to fix.

That is not uncommon with double stack mags. Try an Uplula if it is too much of a PITA.

It will get easier with time. Load the mag to full capacity and set it aside for a few weeks so that it can season.

Good luck

alrighty. I found that putting a full mag in with the slide open it goes in ok but when it's closed it takes a little oomph to get it in but i noticed today it went in a little easier.

Dremel off the nub on the right side metal part that sticks up when the gun is disassembled .it will amend the gen 4 problem and reduce trigger pull to about 4lbs

Wait, what gen 4 problem are you referring too?

This response post is reckless, to say the least. Obviously the OP is very new to guns and came here to ask a question that many cautious newbies may have.

To the OP, I don't know you but will assume you are smart enough not to follow moronic advice suggesting you dremel anything on your glock at this point in your gun learning process. The full mag is simply binding against the bottom of the slide. That is normal. If you aren't strong enough to load the mag fully or to seat a full mag into the gun, just run 12 rounds in the mag. No worries.

Good luck and be safe.

Yup, nothing's wrong with the mag or the gun.

I've heard that if you take a 4 1/2" angle grinder to a Glock it will make it totally rock.

......or was that make it like a rock........yeah maybe should skip both ubermench1000's and my advice.
In all seriousness to the OP, I'm sure the gun is fine. There is a lot of spring tension going on with a fully loaded double stack mag. When you insert that mag on a closed chamber you are further compressing the spring. On my XDm mags with extensions I have to really smack them in hard for them to fully seat during mag changes. If you don't you will get to watch your mag pathetically fall to ground after one shot.

Don't do this the doublestack mags have a stiff spring and the last thing you want to do is compromise the slide
