Excellent. Unless I'm way off base, we should definitely have enough for a hard Leg on Sunday. Hopefully Nadine will be true and you can bring it home. Are you shooting on the North Star SR team?

BigDog58 wrote:Erud, is it possible for someone who his physically unable to shoot from the Prone position, to compete in these matches? I can shoot the other positions, I just can't go prone. My hip and back won't permit it, nor could I get my big butt up off the ground, if I could get prone.

I'm looking for an alternative to the 1000 yd 50 BMG (like I shot with OldmanFCSA two weekends ago) until I can get my own 50 BMG Rifle.

Also, are there any competitions for shooting 300+ yds with rifles such as Weatherby's or Remington 700's ? Oldman got me highly interested in the long range shooting, but disability income currently limits my ability to purchase new weapons, until I save enough pennies to buy one.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Jim,
I'm sure we could accommodate you. I don't have a rule book handy, but I believe that the Highpower rules allow for stages to be shot from an inferior position if the shooter has physical limitations preventing them from getting into the normal position. For example, you could shoot the prone stages from the sitting position, and the sitting from the standing position if you wanted.

We also shoot long range matches with non-.50 caliber rifles on the 1000 yard range at GRRC in Harris, but they are prone only. I believe that they also shoot mid and long-range Benchrest matches up there if that suits you better. I believe that Benchrest can be shot with conventional rifles. I am not a Benchrest shooter, but I can probably find you some contact info for that discipline when I get back to the computer.

Regards,
Erik

I've notified Capt'n Bob I'd be available, I haven't talked to anyone beyond that.

Good. We might even have enough shooters for 2 SR teams PLUS the MR team, which would be pretty cool. MRC will have a team, sounds like Duluth guys are going to chicken out and go home Saturday "if the teams are loaded", according to Wick... hopefully a pick-up team or two also.

Also, I think I got my Chuck Berry songs mixed up - was thinking about Maybelline. Post should should have said; "Hopefully Nadine will start back doin' the things she used to do, and you two can bring it home."

See you Saturday!

Ok, last try:

Hopefully when you see Nadine on Sunday she won't have something else to do and you two can get a hard Leg!

Ok, the 2013 MN State Championship is history. Had a good turnout of 32 shooters on Saturday for the individual matches. I didn't shoot well enough to hold onto the Championship trophy this year, but was happy to see it go to my good buddy and all-around great shooter Matt Griffin. Matt shot a great agg score of 783-18x to win the title. I will have to wait until next summer to try to get it back. On the Service Rifle side of the match, it was South Dakotan Matt Cwach who came out on top with a fine score of 767-19x. MRRA rules stipulate that the state champion must be a MN resident, so the trophy went to up and coming SR shooter Scott Brabec who was close behind with a 765--20x. In the team championship match, the North Star Rifle Club Match Rifle Team was able to hold onto that trophy for a 4th straight year. Sunday's EIC "Leg" match also had a good turnout with 23 hard-holding Service Rifle shooters + 1 Match Rifle shooter. Again it was Matt Griffin who came out as top gun for that match proving that he's a shooter to watch out for, regardless of which rifle he brings. 2 Legs were awarded to the top non-distinguished shooters of the day, they went to Scott Brabec and George Cwach.

This coming weekend will be the Regional Championship and Leg match up at Northwestern Gun Club outside of Duluth. I'll be heading up tomorrow night with hopes of coming home with a Regional Championship medal. We'll see.

One more match down. 2013 HIghpower Regional Championship match was today at Northwestern Gun Club in Duluth. It was warm and humid with rain in the afternoon, but no wind to speak of. I didn't touch the windage knob on my sight until the 500 yard match where I had 1/2 minute of left on. Shot better than last weekend.

Thanks Chris. I saw Jim E's email about Eric yesterday, that's some hard holding! If he keeps that up he will have to surrender his "Expert" card very soon...

See you Saturday!

Ok, another match to report on. The July 13-14th weekend was the MN State Long Range/Palma Championships at Gopher Rifle & Revolver Club in Harris. I'm a little late on this one as I was not able to get a copy of the scores and had to wait until they were posted online. The whole weekend was all about Morgen Dietrich as he went on to win EVERY SINGLE STAGE on both days setting a couple of State records in the process. Only dropped 3 points over the whole weekend and won the aggregate by an astounding 16 points. That is world class shooting and I don't think anyone alive would have beaten Morgen over those 2 days. All the rest of us were pretty much left in the dust. I shot ok on Saturday and 2/3 of Sunday, but had some trouble at the 1000 yd line and finished with a less than stellar score. On the bright side, my score for the weekend combined with the solid score I shot 5 weeks earlier at the Regional was just enough to get me reclassified to High Master for Long Range, which was one of my goals for the season.

See below for scores:

And one more. Last weekend was the annual "Pig Roast" matches at Eau Claire National Rifle Club in Eau Claire, WI. This is always a popular match and it's one that I've wanted to shoot for the last 5 or 6 years but have never actually made. Saturday's match is a 4-gun 600 yard match with each shooter shooting 4 20-shot strings at the 600-yard line. I was not able to make it on Saturday so I do not have full results to post, but reports were that Randy Gregory of Medford WI won the match with a fine score of 795. Phil Klanderud and Dick VanValkenburg were right behind him with both shooting 793's, Phill just edging Dick on X-count.

I got up at 4:30 on Sunday morning and hit the road early for my first trip to ECNRC. Got there around 7:30 and chatted with some of my MN shooting buddies that had shot Saturday and camped overnight. It was a good turnout of 26 shooters including a lot of guys I'd never met before from Wisconsin. The weather forecast looked somewhat ominous and by around 10 am we were forced to take a 90 minute rain delay. Lots of guys were considering going home and calling it a day, but everyone ended up staying and at around 11:30 or so we were back underway. It seemed like everyone was kind of "off" particularly in the standing match and no great scores were fired there. I shot my worst standing score of the season and was not too pleased leaving the 200-yard line. I guess not touching my rifle for 2 full weeks is not a good strategy for shooting good scores. No more rain the rest of the day and by the time we got back to 600, it was actually very nice out. Sunny and clear skies with a 3-5mph right-to-left wind that held pretty steady except for 2 big pickups that were easy to see and easy to wait out. The match wrapped up around 4:30 and everyone was on their way back home. I plan on coming back next year and camping for the weekend.

Full results below.

Ok, back again. Last weekend at Minneapolis Rifle Club was my first local match since returning from Camp Perry a couple of weeks ago. Matches at MRC are usually smaller, lower-key events and this one was no exception. Several new and newer shooters were on hand to get their feet wet in the sport. Always a good time, and the matches always run quickly and smoothly, and the club provided a great BBQ for dinner on saturday. I shot fairly well on Saturday, but wasn't super happy with my prone stages. Sunday, the wind picked up quite a bit and was switching from 3 to 9 o'clock in seconds. You really had to be paying attention in slow prone to not get caught. Mark Rohmann continued to show us all how easy slow prone is and won all 3 of those matches with a fine display of shooting.

There is one more of these matches at MRC this season on September 14, and it'd be a great opportunity for anyone who's been on the fence about trying it out. You can get a taste of it and then have all winter to decide if you liked it or not. I still have a rifle and ammo available for any new shooter to borrow at no charge, just let me know enough in advance so I can make sure I have everything ready.

Results posted below.

Regards,
Erik
