The greatest insult ever...

Postby Seismic Sam on Sun Jul 07, 2013 8:15 am

So I'm over in the Hudson FF, OC'ing as I normally do when I'm there, and get the stuff I need and wander over to the gun counter. There I find a 40ish mom with a 12 year old son who wants to get his hunter safety card, so she's asking all sorts of questions, including ones about PTC, and since she's never even thought about this before, we're talking all the ignorant questions that come out from somebody who wants to get into this but has absolutely NO background whatsoever. Luckily for her, the guy behind the counter is nearly my age, and pretty much knows his stuff and all the Wisconsin open carry history and the State Amendment too. So he's telling her that the permit allows you to carry open or concealed, and gestures over to me while he's talking. It takes her a few seconds to spot Baby Duece at 3 o'clock sticking out of my waistband, and for those of you who don't know what I carry, it's a very expensive (about $3.5K), rare, and very exotic Guncrafter Industries Model #1 in 50 GI (with CTC laser sights, no less). As far as pure 1911's go this is the ultimate both in caliber and workmanship. So I explain some stuff to the lady too, and tell her to goy buy Michael Martin's book and read it thoroughly, and if FF doesn't sell it go over to Bill's 1 block down. and it will do an enormous amount to clue her in to guns and carrying. So she's soaking all this in, and staring at this coal black artillery piece in my waistband, and innocently asks THE question..... It's a question that one could equally ask about a lot of other products that have market dominance and are as ubiquitous as the Volkswagen Beetle or an iPhone, but by the luck of the draw I, with my 50GI on me, get the question:
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Excuse me, is that a Glock?? :( :o  :? :angryvillagers: :poundon:

P.S. Yes, I know all about the 50GI conversion for the Tupperware, and what you wind up with is the most top heavy and nasty recoiling Tupperware in the world, and it's STILL just Tupperware....

Naaahhh - she was a complete n00b trying to learn, so I just mentioned that it was something very rare and exotic, and she'd probably never seen another one like this...

She must have known enough to understand that with how informed you seemed that you MUST have been carrying the best. I hope she still took you seriously after learning you didn't have a Glock.

Have you ever noticed that on most TV programs, they call almost all handguns no matter what it is a Glock!

Yeah, that's an insult. You have a real gun. Glocks are the iProduct of the gun world.

eh? The XDm is a licensed version (or "copy" if you will) of the HS2000, not a Glock. Both have polymer frames, but so do a lot of guns these days.

Are you not worried about using your gun in a self defense situation and having it confiscated till the investigation is complete?

So, in other words, the Zune to everyone's Ipod. hipsters love Zunes, even if they are more difficult to use(maintain in the case of the XD) not as easy to get accessories and support for, and when you do find cool stuff for em, it costs you more
