Toys for Tots **DONE**

Postby Stradawhovious on Fri Oct 03, 2008 6:46 pm

Call me a bleeding heart jackass if you want....... But would anyone be up for a toys for tots collection from the board for the holiday season? Don't have anything strctured in mind at this point, just throwing an idea out there. The food drive seemed to be a great success, why not continue the trend?

Or if not toys for tots something else..... might be good PR for our cause, but more importantly will help some less fortunate people have a better holiday.

For those that are abjectly opposed to this, please, just don't participate. We don't need another entire thread about how big of an idiot I am. There are plenty of those out there already ;)

Just imagine the joy on some kids face when he opens up his present and sees an UpLULA magazine loader in there....

... seriously though that sounds like a good idea. I'd throw in a thing or two :)

I would help in any way needed. I know there is a need for the kids age 7 and up , many teens get forgotten. We could adopt a family? I've done this before and had a boy my own sons age and had him help pick out the gifts. Good for both.

I'm in, let me know when you'd like donations by. Maybe we could even get Strad on Kare11.

Sounds like a great idea. Do we want to donate cash, and then send a few people out to buy presents for a family or five? Or do we want to find a list of needs and then each person takes a need or two, goes out and fills the need and then we drop them off at a central location?

Just by writing the above- I think we should donate cash. Then combine it and a few people go out and buy gifts. Once we have an idea of how much cash we have to deal with we can contact the Toys for Tots people and figure out how many people we can help. A woman's touch might be nice here- I have not idea what to buy a teenage girl.

However, some people really gain something from doing out and actually make a purchase for someone in need....

Just a few thoughts.

Have a good one,

What a great idea :D
I kinda like the idea of adopting a specific Family, instead of just throwing it all in a general fund. I've heard (although not confirmed) good things have a way of "disappearing". Maybe one who's parent/parents won't be home for Christmas because they are in the Military. Heck, if there's enough interest here, we could adopt 1 from each branch so "not to ruffle anyone feather's" out there.

Just an idea...LT

It was your idea, I know you'll represent the site well and I think Rucker would agree. Besides I don't think he wants to be on tv.

Toys For Tots is an official United States Marine Corps Foundation. Toys for Tots began in 1947 with Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR. I have been an active participant with this organization for over 15 years. IT is strongly supported by many military based organizations such as: Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard, VFW, Legion, Marine Corps League, etc.........

Last year I believe that TfT handed out multiple gifts to approximately 250,000- families just in the Twin Cities, let alone nationally.....................so Lady T, I do not know what you have heard that could or would disparage this organization, but I will personally guarantee that they are 100% above board and only have the best interest of families in the forefront of their endeavor...........

and it is an all volunteer organization.......Marines do not just volunteer to protect this country and your rights, but also in their personal lives to make it a better place to live for all............

Thanks Strad for the idea and recommendation............... :salute:

Thanks hammAR for the background on this wonderful organization. Strad's suggestion and anybody else willing to donate main motivation is to help families in need, but it doesn't hurt to get some good public relations for gun owners at the same time. hammAR based on your involvement do you have any suggestions on the best way to get a little pr from it?
