Carrying extra ammo for the 642

So i just got back into a 642 and while i have a good holster, i do not have a great way for reloads. I want a speed reloader but they are a bit bulky. Stripper clips are great to just shove in the pocket but do not allow for quick reloading.

Any suggestions?
Also, what speed loaders do you reccomend?

They work great with a little practice and lay flat in a pocket.

Strips are the only way I know of to keep down the bulk. Not super fast unless you practice with them, even then, not super fast but otherwise you have the bulk. I'll be watching to see what ideas others have.

Really isn't a good in between, even if you did a moon clip conversion on it you'd have the bulk. Maybe carry spares in a belt pouch designed for the speedloaders.

The easiest thing is to carry a spare 642 in your other pocket.

Done that with my SP101 in holster and LCR in pocket, plus one 8 round speed strip.

I've heard of people doing this but using half moon clips instead. Sounds like a good idea if you wanted to go that route.

The 642, SW J-frame in 38, are 5 round cylinders. I have never seen a moon clip conversion for them. Don't know what a "half moon" clip for a 5 round cylinder would look like. I do have some 2 round clips for my 625 (45 ACP). They carry in a pocket nicer than full or half moon clips.

TK Custom will machine your J-frame cylinder to accept moon clips. That still doesn't address the issue of doing a half moon, unless you have a .327Mag.

I compromise with the so-called Speed Strip in the summertime, but once vest/jacket weather arrives I carry a Safariland speeedloader or two. These are for my Rugers; not sure which model if any works with the 642.

When I carry my 60, I just deal with the bulk of a HKS speedloader in a front pocket. Nobody notices or asks. And it doesn't even bother me that much.

Speedloaders work just fine.

Fanny pack would hide many speed loaders and make a fasion statement

I carry two speed strips in my back pocket, nice and flat, forget they are there. Need to practice reloading with them to get comfortable with the "peel 'em off" method. Speed loaders are better suited for the glove box, unless you have a nice belt pouch or big pockets.
